International Leisure Sports Festival Kicks Off in Chuncheon

CHUNCHEON, South Korea, Sept. 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The annual leisure sports festival started on Friday in this provincial city east ofSeoul with a qualifying match for an inline skating event.

<http://photos.prnasia.com/prnh/20140901/8521404910> International Leisure Sports Festival kicks off in Chuncheon The 3rd edition of the Chuncheon International Leisure Sports Festival will run untilSept. 2 at several venues in Chuncheon, 85 kilometers northeast ofSeoul, with participation of some 16,000 athletes from 50 different countries, includingSouth Korea, according to organizers.

About 200 of the athletes are foreigners and they are competing in three international events -- inline slalom, action sports and paramotor gliding. Fourteen other events, including sports climbing, paragliding, tennis, baseball, dance sports and billiards, are for native Koreans only.

One of the major attractions for this year's event is the variety of programs for visitors.

The programs include mountain hiking, a photo contest, canoe riding, water bike riding and making a bamboo water gun and a wind powered automobile. Various art and automobile exhibitions will also be showcased.

In addition, visitors can also ride motor boats, banana-shaped boats and fly boards free of charge during the festival.

The opening ceremony is scheduled to be held at the main stadium in Chuncheon's Songam Sports Town at7 p.m. Saturday, which will be followed by a K-pop concert.

To promote convenience for the large number of vistors expected to attend, the festival's organizing committee said they will run shuttle buses connecting two train stations in the city to the sports town over the weekend.

About 160 volunteers will provide help with such areas as interpretation, transportation and assistance with race procedures, organizers said.

Choi Dong-yong, mayor of Chuncheon and chief organizer of the festival, expressed hope that as many people as possible would visit Chuncheon, a city well equipped with infrastructure for leisure sports, during the festival and go back home with unforgettable memories.

As part of her role as MDA's National Goodwill Ambassador, Reagan travels throughout the country (along with parents, Jenny and Joe) speaking to groups about MDA's mission to save and improve the lives of families like hers affected by muscle disease. Reagan has spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a genetic disease affecting the part of the nervous system that controls voluntary muscle movement.

Michaels' relationship with MDA began last spring when he performed at the 27(th) annual Ride for Life in Bethlehem, Pa. and met with 14-year-old MDA Ambassador Bryson Foster. Bryson got the chance to interview the rock icon during a special meet-n-greet, which inspired Michaels to invite Bryson onstage for a special finale performance of classic hit "Nothin' but a Good Time" later that evening.

CRTC requires broadcasting industry to relay emergency alert messages to Canadians

OTTAWA and GATINEAU, QC, Aug. 29, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) today acted to ensure that, in the event of an emergency situation, Canadians receive timely warnings over the radio and through their televisions. The CRTC is requiring the broadcasting industry to participate and relay emergency alert messages to Canadians.

Cable and satellite companies, radio stations, over-the-air television stations and video-on-demand services must begin issuing such messages by March 31, 2015. Campus, community-based and Native broadcasters have until March 31, 2016 to comply with this new requirement.

Emergency alert messages are issued by emergency management officials such as fire marshals, police officers and public health personnel to warn the public of dangers to life and property. For example, alerts could be issued to warn Canadians of Amber Alerts, tornadoes, forest fires, floods, meteors, water contamination and industrial disasters.

Currently, participation in the National Public Alerting System is voluntary.

Perlman is a TV, film and voice actor best known for his roles as Vincent in the TV series Beauty and the Beast (for which he won a Golden Globe), as Hellboy in the 2004 Hellboy movie, the 2008 sequel Hellboy II: The Golden Army and as Clarence "Clay" Morrow in the hit TV series Sons of Anarchy.

During the reporting period, the turnover of the Group increased 34.7% to approximatedlyHK$874.6 million (6 months ended30 June 2013: HK$649.1 million). Profit for the period attributable to owner of the Company increased 44.4% to approximatelyHK$101.0 million (6 months ended30 June 2013: HK$70.0 million).

The Board does not recommend interim dividend for the 6 months ended 30 June 2014.  

During the reporting period, the Group's operating revenue increased 38% to approximately HK875 million (6 months ended30 Jun 2013: HK$633 million). The revenue contributed from Xingmeihui surged by 4.4 times to approximatelyHK$114. Gross profit margin significantly increased 10.2 percentage point to 64.5% as compared with the corresponding period in 2013.

Business Review

Movie Theater Business

Benefited from the flourishing Chinese film industry, the movie theater business of SMI developed healthily. For the first half of 2014, the movie theater business has generated revenue of approximatelyHK$761 million, representing an increase of 46% as compared to the corresponding period of last year, while the profit increased by 217% to approximatelyHK$168 million (6 months ended30 June 2013: HK$53 million).

During the reporting period, the Group has a total of 83 movie theaters with 582 screens in major cities inChina, representing an increase of 22% and 19% respectively. (6 months ended30 June 2013: 68 movie theaters; 490 screens) While securing its leading position in first tier cities, SMI expanded its movie theatres footprints to second and third tier cities and has opend 15 new movie theaters in the first half of 2014 inXi'an, Wuxi and other cities. The Group expects to have 100 SMI movie theaters nationwide by the end of 2014.

Advertising and Promotion Business

During the reporting period, the Group achieved a great leap forward in its advertising and promotion business, and recorded a revenue of approximatelyHK$188 million, representing an increase of 141% compared to the corresponding period of last year. With the objective to satisfy the different advertising needs of customers, the Group has rationalized the arrangement of the idle time and space of movie theaters, screening halls and projection screens, and utilizing advanced facilities like LED panels to develop its advertising and promotion business on an on-going basis.

New Membership Intergrated Marketing Scheme ("New Membership Scheme")

The New Membership Scheme has helped SMI to get a systematic understanding of customers' needs, secure existing customers and develop new customers, as well as build up a complete customer database. During the Reporting Period, the Group continued to push the New Membership Scheme forward and bring it into full play, and has further expanded the Group's membership database and secured the future development of the Group's core business and complementary business.

Movie and TV series production Business

As a strategic move, the Group has gradually transferring its movie and TV series production business to SMI Culture Group Holdings Limited (stock code: 2366), another listing vehicle of the Group, since the beginning of 2014. In the future, SMI Culture will focus on developing contents production business. At present, the Company held 29.97% of the issued share capital of SMI Culture.

New Complementary Businesses -- Xingmeihui

SMI established Xingmeihui in 2012, which is the first-ever movie theater O2O eShop inChina. After two years of planning and development, Xingmeihui has experienced a super-strong growth during the Reporting Period. The segment achieved a revenue of approximatelyHK$114 million, increased significantly by 443% as compared with the corresponding period in 2013, and recorded a profit of approximatelyHK$10 million, representing a huge increase by 1,100% as compared with the corresponding period in 2013.

Xingmeihui has grown strong to become the new engine for the Group's development, and is expected to bring stable and strong contribution to us in the future. As at30 June 2014, the Group has a total of 83 Xingmeihui in-theater counters, and will set relevant stores beyond the Group's movie theaters, which will mostly be located at large social community and crowded shopping malls.

Prospects

The Group will continue expanding its cinema terminal as planned, with an aim to capture the opportunities in area with lower penetration by following our strategy to shift our development focus from first tier cities to second and third tier cities. SMI expects to have 100 movie theaters by the end of 2014, and further increase to 200 theaters in three years' time.

SMI will increase investment in setting up Xingmeihui's channels, and plans to have a total of 200 Xingmeihui stores in 2014, and further increase to 1,000 stores in three years' time. The Group will also cooperate with famous brand on an on-going basis and remain innovative.

Reaching 4.3 million viewers every week, ETALK is averaging 556,000 viewers this summer, 76% ahead of ET CANADA (317,000), and 20% ahead of ET (462,000). ETALK's most-watched episode this summer brought in an overnight audience of 757,000 viewers on Aug. 21.

Before all the glitz and glamour of the film festival invades Toronto, ETALK presents HOLLYWOOD AT HOME: 12 YEARS OF ETALK AT TIFF. Airing Monday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. ET on CTV and 7:30 p.m. ET on CTV Two, this 30-minute special features ETALK's best TIFF moments, with anchors Ben Mulroney and Tanya Kim, along with senior reporter Danielle Graham (McGimsie), reporter Lainey, ETALK Executive Producer/Co-Creator Morley Nirenberg, and TIFF Artistic Director Cameron Bailey revisiting the Toronto International Film Festival(®) of years past. An encore presentation airs Friday, Sept. 5 at 1:30 p.m. ET on CTV Two (visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times).

ETALK will also live tweet each 7 p.m. ET broadcast on CTV every day of the festival, including the latest festival headlines and Instagram photos from red carpets, parties, and celebrity sightings. For the fourth straight year, ETALK returns as the official Red Carpet Media Sponsor of gala central at Roy Thomson Hall. From their coveted position, the team will produce 20, separate, live, half-hour red carpet shows featuring some of the biggest names in Hollywood including Robert Downey Jr., Reese Witherspoon, Morgan Freeman, Tina Fey, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Julianne Moore, Kate Winslet, and many more. New this year, ETALK presents The Great Canadian Talent Faceoff with Telefilm Canada on Festival Street (King Street West between Peter Street and University Avenue), where this year's TIFF Rising Stars compete against well-known Canadian talent in hilarious games to put their knowledge of Canadian cinema to the test. The talent participating this year includes Zoie Palmer (LOST GIRL), Ray Ablack (DEGRASSI), Vinay Virmany (Dr. Cabbie), and Katie Boland (REIGN).

In advance of all the exclusive TIFF events, ETALK kicked off the party circuit as co-sponsor of the #TWIFF Party (August 27) at The Fairmont Royal York. ETALK also continues to give viewers exclusive behind-the-scenes party access including the most anticipated pre-TIFF bash, the 9(th) Annual Canadian Filmmakers Party on September 3.
