2013 Marks the 125(th) Anniversary of the Legendary Hatfield-McCoy New Year's Day Massacre

WASHINGTON, Dec. 31, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The home of Randall McCoy, the patriarch of the famed McCoy family, and the site of the deadly 1888 New Year's Day showdown between the Hatfields and the McCoys, and 125-year-old artifacts from that feud have been uncovered in rural Kentucky. The discovery was made by the Diggers team shooting an episode of the National Geographic Channel series and confirmed by Kim McBride, co-director of the Kentucky Archaeological Survey (jointly administered by the University of Kentucky Department of Anthropology and the Kentucky Heritage Council).

This site, located on private property in rural Hardy, Ky., had long been speculated to be the McCoy's land and the site of the final family feud. Remains of the cabin where the family lived and artifacts from the site where the most famous feud in American history went down, however, had never been uncovered ... until now!

The new National Geographic Channel series Diggers premieres Tuesday, January 1, 2013, with back-to-back episodes at 10 and 10:30 PM ET/PT. The episode detailing the McCoy homestead discovery airs on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at 10 PM.

Diggers hosts, amateur scientists, vocational metal detector enthusiasts and history buffs George "KG" Wyant and Tim "Ringy" Saylor, first discovered what they thought were clear signs that finally proved the McCoy home was on the property and that this was the site of the final Hatfield-McCoy standoff, which helped to end at least a decade of family fighting. Conferring with the private landowners and working with Diggers staff archaeologist Kate Culpepper and local historian Bill Richardson, the team pinpointed the location of the home and discovered charred wooden board remains, as well as specific items from the home, including possible parts from a stove, nails and a plow blade fragment.

After they found the burned wood and artifacts, Wyant and Saylor followed protocol agreed on with the archaeology community at the start of the series production and called in McBride to verify the find. The team screened shovel test units and recorded the site with the Kentucky Office of State Archaeology, to ensure that the site was protected and the find was legitimate.

"This is an incredible discovery behind America's greatest family feud," said McBride. "After spending two days excavating at the site, we were pleased to find a number of original artifacts from the actual structure, such as window glass and both wrought and machine-cut nails, and we were able to trace the lineage of the property right back to Randall McCoy and his wife Sarah McCoy. NEW YORK, Dec. 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- NBCUniversal and the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC) announced today a comprehensive new carriage deal that encompasses broad distribution for the programmer's full portfolio of cable and broadcast services, as well as a first-ever retransmission consent deal for NBC and Telemundo Owned Stations.

Today's announcement follows NBCUniversal's recent distribution agreements with Cablevision, Mediacom, Suddenlink and Verizon.

Under the terms of the multi-year agreement, NBCUniversal's broad portfolio of top-rated broadcast and cable content will be carried by NCTC's nearly 1,000 independent cable operator members nationwide. Included in the deal are rights to carry the Olympic Games, as well as on-demand content from NBCUniversal's cable and broadcast network portfolio, and access to live channels across multiple platforms, both in and out of the home.

In making the announcement, Matt Bond, Executive Vice President, Content Distribution, NBCUniversal said, "NCTC's members will continue to have access to the best English and Spanish language cable network and broadcast programming. This agreement reflects NCTC's understanding of the value that NBCUniversal delivers to their members."

With completion of this comprehensive renewal agreement, the NCTC members are licensed for carriage of all NBCUniversal's national cable networks, including Bravo, cloo, Chiller, CNBC, CNBC World, E!, G4, Golf Channel, MSNBC, mun2, NBC Sports Network, Oxygen, Sprout, Style, Syfy, Telemundo, Universal HD and USA.

Tribune Company Emerges From Chapter 11

Emerges with Portfolio of Profitable Assets, Strong Liquidity and New Board of Directors

CHICAGO, Dec. 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Tribune Company announced today that it has successfully emerged from its Chapter 11 restructuring process. The company's plan of reorganization was confirmed by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware in July, and the Federal Communications Commission granted Tribune the necessary transfer applications and waivers in November. Tribune's plan of reorganization officially became effective today, Dec. 31, 2012, and distributions to creditors have been initiated.

"Tribune emerges from the bankruptcy process as a multi-media company with a great mix of profitable assets, strong brands in major markets and a much-improved capital structure," said Eddy Hartenstein, Tribune's chief executive officer. "The company's greatest asset, however, is its employees who, individually and collectively, have remained focused on serving our viewers, readers, advertisers and communities with a single-minded sense of purpose and dedication. I want to thank all our employees for their talent and effort throughout this four-year process."

In connection with emergence, Tribune closed on a new $1.1 billion senior secured term loan and a new $300 million asset based revolving credit facility. The term loan will be used to fund certain required payments under the plan of reorganization, and the revolving credit facility will be used to fund ongoing operations.

In addition, Tribune's pre-petition credit facilities and outstanding notes and debentures were cancelled and extinguished, and its pre-petition common stock was cancelled. Upon completion of all distributions under the plan of reorganization, Tribune will have issued to former creditors a mix of approximately 100 million shares of new class A common stock and new class B common stock and new warrants to purchase shares of new class A or class B common stock. Former creditors entitled to receive a distribution of Tribune's new common stock or new warrants are encouraged to review the information and documents which will be posted to Tribune's website at www.tribune.com relating to such securities, including Tribune's Amended and Restated Certificate of Incorporation, Amended and Restated Bylaws, the warrant agreement setting forth the terms of the new warrants and other information, including FAQs with respect to distributions under the plan of reorganization.

"In accordance with our restructuring plan, Tribune's subsidiary creditors and vendors are receiving payment in full--100% recovery of what they are owed," said Hartenstein. The company also announced its new Board of Directors, effective immediately: Bruce Karsh, Ken Liang, Peter Murphy, Ross Levinsohn, Craig A. Jacobson, Peter Liguori, and Eddy Hartenstein.

Tribune's new Board of Directors will convene its first meeting in the next several weeks, at which time it will define the roles of its members, its committee structure, and designate and ratify the company's executive officers. Chief executive officer Eddy Hartenstein will remain in his current role until that time.

Deal that includes several Indy-based lenders helps solidify company's financial structure

INDIANAPOLIS, Dec. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Emmis Communications Corporation (Nasdaq: EMMS) announced today the completion of a new $100 million Credit Agreement. Proceeds from the Credit Agreement will be used to refinance the Company's existing Term Loan B, Extended Term Loan B, Senior Unsecured Notes, and for general corporate purposes. The new Credit Agreement is comprised of an $80 million term loan and $20 million revolving line of credit with a five year maturity. The Company expects that the new Credit Agreement will further enhance steps the Company has taken during the past year to create shareholder value by reducing interest expenses and targeting free cash flow generated for principal repayments.

BOSTON, Dec. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- One year after the Costa Concordia shipwreck, survivors Benji Smith and Emily Lau announce the simultaneous publication of a memoir detailing their experience escaping from the sinking ship and an album of original compositions inspired by the disaster.

The book, written by Smith and titled Abandoned Ship: An Intimate Account of the Costa Concordia Shipwreck, tells the story of the couple's harrowing journey escaping from the sinking vessel.

"I've never been so terrified in my life," says Smith. "When all the lifeboats left us behind, Emily and I truly thought we were going to die. This was our honeymoon cruise, but we actually said goodbye to each other."

The memoir follows Smith and Lau as they scavenged a rope from the deck of the ship and rappelled down the hull in search of rescue, and then through Rome as they struggled to find their way back home again, relying on the kindness of strangers to provide them with food, shelter, and clothing.

"This experience forced us to confront the fragility of our existence," says Lau. "But over the past year, paradoxically, it also gave us courage. The courage to seek justice for this catastrophe, and the courage to find beauty even when justice is elusive. That's really what this album is all about: when life gives you a shipwreck, make shipwreck music."

Lau draws from her experience as an active touring classical musician to craft her new album, Isle of Lucidity. Grounded in medieval polyphony and colored with modern chromatic sonority, she develops a unique musical language and paints a series of vignettes, alternately depicting the seascape in turmoil and the hope of the survivors. With texts taken from a variety of eastern and western faith traditions, as well as the work contemporary poets, Lau asks the listener to accompany her on a journey in search of truth and beauty in the aftermath of a tragedy.
