U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum Convenes National Student Leader Conference on Darfur

More than 400 Students From Across U.S. to Attend

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's Committee on Conscience (COC) is hosting A Call to Action for Darfur, Sudan, to educate and engage student leaders from colleges and universities nationwide on the ongoing genocide in Darfur. On February 5 more than 400 students from 91 universities will visit the Museum and hear presentations from human rights experts and a Holocaust survivor. Speakers include:

"This conference aims to equip student leaders with the knowledge and support they need to raise campus awareness of the genocide in Darfur," states Committee on Conscience Director Jerry Fowler. "Through this and other efforts, the Museum is working to keep students nationwide engaged on this critical issue."

On February 6, Georgetown University's Students Taking Action Now for Darfur (S.T.A.N.D.) will host its own workshops on student campus activism at Georgetown University. S.T.A.N.D. was started by Georgetown students following a Museum program for DC-area students held in September 2004, and similar groups have been started on more than 45 campuses nationwide.
