Improving Heart Health in Kids with Type 1: The More They Exercise, the Lower the Risk of Early Death
It's never too early to focus on how to maintain good cardiovascular health, especially for people with type-one diabetes. A study published in the August issue of Diabetes Care underscores the need for regular physical activity among youth, finding that the more active the child, the better the child's cardiovascular risk profile.
A new study by researchers in Germany and Austria, which looked at the physical activity levels and cardiovascular health of more than 23-thousand young people between the ages of three and 18, found that those who were most physically active were the least likely to be at risk for heart disease. As physical activity levels rose, the study showed, risk factors such as high lipid profiles, diastolic blood pressure, and blood glucose levels fell.

Google, Zara, Apple, and Nintendo are among this year's top gainers in BusinessWeek's annual ranking of The Best Global Brands. For the seventh consecutive year, BusinessWeek has teamed up with Interbrand, a leading brand consultancy, to publish a ranking of the top 100 global brands by brand value.
Reviving even a storied brand isn't easy once consumers have a negative perception of it. Just ask Ford or Gap, which lost 19 percent and 15 percent of their brand value, respectively, in this year's BusinessWeek/Interbrand annual ranking of the 100 Best Global Brands. Even such perennial winners as Coca-Cola can have trouble boosting their brand. The beverage giant claimed the top spot for the seventh year in a row mostly because it is big and everywhere, but it failed to further grow its reputation because its move into healthier drinks has yet to resonate.
