NBC Acquires the Series and Format from Caracol Television, "Sin Tetas No Hay Paraiso" (Without Breasts, There's No Paradise)

MIAMI, June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Caracol TV Internacional announced that NBC has acquired the rights to the format as well as the broadcasting rights to the successful Colombian series "Sin Tetas No Hay Paraiso" (Without Breasts, There's No Paradise), a series that will be adapted and produced in English and Spanish in the United States as a prime-time project for NBC and Telemundo, respectively.

In the words of Ben Silverman, new Co-chairman of NBC Universal Media Studios, "I scour the world for the best ideas and for the game-changing hit shows and Sin Tetas is one of those shows. According to Silverman, "These synergistic productions represent a giant leap forward for the networks of NBC Universal."

Don Browne, for his part, president of Telemundo, NBC's network in Spanish, stated that "English and Spanish-language television viewing audiences will now have the chance to enjoy one of the most popular and controversial telenovela plots in recent years."

The president of Caracol Television, Paulo Laserna, said, "The current success of content at the international level is underscored with examples such as 'La Guerra de las Rosas' in Russia (Tatiana's Day) and Pedro El Escamoso in its Mexican version (Yo Amo a Juan Querendon) in the Hispanic market in the United States. Like so many others, the scripts that serve as the foundation of such TV series were designed as universal stories suitable for all audiences."

"The agreement with NBC also demonstrates the acceptance of Caracol's stories by the English-speaking audience in the United States and confirms the growing attraction of U.S. producers to Colombian creativity," Mr. Laserna concluded.

The series, written by Gustavo Bolivar, comes preceded by tremendous audience acclaim in Colombia, as well as in all countries where it is currently broadcast.

As Caracol International Vice President Camilo Cano said, "'Sin Tetas No Hay Paraiso' has been a complete success, becoming the best-selling product sold by the Colombian network. To the above mentioned is added the negotiation of format with recognized producers and channels around the world, among them, Grundy in Italy, Telecinco in Spain, Amedia in Russia, and now NBC and Telemundo in the United States."

According to Cano, "this is the first time in the history of Latin American TV that an original series has begun to be produced simultaneously in five versions and four languages at the global level."

In closing, Cano noted that "after working on successful co-productions with Telemundo like Pasion de Gavilanes and TV Azteca, Caracol has entered into a new phase which is the construction of the most modern production headquarters in Latin America, a facility that in the medium term could begin to produce dramas on commission for countries in Europe and the Americas in general."
