Surfing with the Alien was the album that ignited JOE SATRIANI's career as a solo performer. The acclaimed guitarist's second full-length release, Surfing with the Alien, was originally issued in October 1987 on Relativity Records. It was the first rock guitar instrumental album to reach Billboard's Top 200 Album Chart. A left-field bestseller Alien reached No. 29 on the Billboard Top 200 and was certified Platinum for US sales of over one million copies. It includes the charting hits "Satch Boogie" and "Surfing With The Alien," plus the Grammy-nominated "Always With Me, Always With You."

Satriani still "marvels" at the decades long connection between his album and the celebrated comic figure. He recalls a rather tall production manager at Relativity/Combat, who had been nicknamed the Silver Surfer during his early radio days working in Boston, Mass. "When he received my pre-release mixes of the album," Satriani continues, "and saw the title Surfing With The Alien, he jokingly said we should use the Silver Surfer image as cover art." Coincidently, it turned out this production manager lived down the street from the Marvel Comics offices. "In a burst of creative energy, he decides to run the idea past them. Quite casually in return, the Marvel reps said that since the Marvel character Silver Surfer was no longer 'active' in the comic world, Marvel would grant us a broad use license, and the rest is history."

On August 7, 2007, Epic/Legacy Recordings will celebrate the 20th anniversary of this groundbreaking album with the release of a newly expanded edition of Surfing with the Alien. This meticulously restored two-disc set includes the newly re-mastered album, new liner notes written by Joe and a previously never-before-seen live show filmed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1988. It will also feature a special deluxe package featuring memorabilia from Joe himself.

Over the course of his illustrious career, SATRIANI has achieved huge success, selling more than 10 million albums & DVDs worldwide with 12 solo albums (2 platinum, 4 gold) and 3 platinum DVD's, as well as garnering 14 Grammy nominations. Over the last two decades, SATRIANI has traveled the world, playing to sold-out crowds as both a headliner and as founder of the all-star "G3" guitar extravaganza.
