'TRIBUTE' From Hawaiian Recording Artists 'PALI' Reveals True Island Sounds
Original Soundtracks From 'TRIBUTE' CD Recorded in Hawai'i Now Available
LOS ANGELES, June 20 /PRNewswire/ -- With the passing of Hawaiian music's public icon Don Ho, the mantle of Hawai'i classical and contemporary traditions has also passed to a new generation of Island-bred musicians. Among them PALI, named for band leader Pali T. W. Ka'aihue, has emerged with "TRIBUTE" an introspective collection of Hawaiian talent that includes Cecelio & Kapono, Kalapana, Country Comfort, The Peter Moon Band, Keola & Kapono Beamer, and Summer. It is the sound of "new Hawai'i with our cultural heart and soul intact," according to Pali, who grew up in the 50th state listening to island classics "and bands like Van Halen, Boston, some serious rocker head banging stuff."
After a spot on the Grammy ballot with CD "In Harmony" in 2005, Pali said that he found working with renowned international music legends, like Henry Kapono Ka'aihue and the members of KALAPANA, set a standard for preserving and honoring contemporary island music. These bands have also worked with some of the best musicians out there including Michael McDonald and session players for Steely Dan among others. "When you work with genuine artists who share a vision and a style of what Contemporary Hawaiian music is to those, here in the islands, you find that you want to somehow communicate this passion to the world. Part of that passion is returning the music to its essence, while embracing the various styles and sounds found here in Hawai'i."
While the band plans to approach Starbucks' label Hear Music later this year, for now "PALI" and "Tribute" are available for hire through http://www.screenmancer.tv/, a movie-related site that connects music for films with filmmakers worldwide. "Working with music made for films is new to us," PALI's frontman noted, "but when you have an industry that is so tailor-made to share your music with global audiences, you have to look into it and see where your talents can be applied." The band has already been the inflight music for Aloha and Hawaiian Airlines. On tour year-round, the band continues to find wider and wider audiences on demand.
"Hawaiian music is sometimes viewed with a surface sheen that is out of tune with the history of Hawai'i," Pali said. "If given a choice, my guess is people would be amazed at the sophistication, depth and richness of the 'real thing' and how diverse the music of Hawai'i truly is."
