Music Legends Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson & Ray Price Record LAST OF THE BREED Their First Album Together Released By Lost Highway On March 20
Two-Disc Set Features 20 Newly Recorded Classics Plus Two New Songs
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- They just don't make 'em like they used to. That is, until now. Country Music Hall of Famers Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson and Ray Price have joined together to record the appropriately titled LAST OF THE BREED. The trio's first album together will be released by Lost Highway on March 20.
LAST OF THE BREED is a two-disc, 22-song collection of newly recorded versions of country classics by three of the genres most important and influential artists. LAST OF THE BREED was recorded in Nashville and produced by the extraordinary Fred Foster, who also produced Nelson's 2006 Grammy nominated YOU DON'T KNOW ME: THE SONGS OF CINDY WALKER. Some of Nashville's finest were brought in for these sessions including steel guitar legend Buddy Emmons and renowned fiddler Johnny Gimble. Beautiful backing vocals were provided by The Jordanaires.
LAST OF THE BREED has the sound and feel of a classic album in a very natural way. Merle, Ray and Willie bring new life to such gems as Harlan Howard's "Heartaches By The Number" (with Vince Gill on backing vocals), Cindy Walker's "Night Watch", Mickey Newbury's "Sweet Memories" and Kris Kristofferson's "Why Me Lord", featuring Kristofferson singing backing vocals. The Trio also cut a couple of recently penned songs with Nelson's "Back To Earth" and Haggard's "Sweet Jesus", co-written with Kenny Vernon.
In March, Merle, Ray and Willie will head out on a tour in support of LAST OF THE BREED, with the acclaimed Asleep At The Wheel as their backing band. The tour will include stops in New York, Nashville, Las Vegas, Detroit and Colorado Springs.
It isn't often that the stars align, but when they do we should definitely take notice. With LAST OF THE BREED, they have indeed aligned and we should most definitely take a listen.
