Access Innovations Helping The Discovery Channel and The Weather Channel Improve Searching & Retrieval of Online Content

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Access Innovations, Inc., (AI) content management specialists and publishers of the Data Harmony(TM) (www.dataharmony.com) suite of taxonomy software tools, said today that it is helping two leading cable television networks -- The Discovery Channel and The Weather Channel -- to improve searching and retrieval of information housed on their Web sites.

Multiple Web sites maintained by the two networks are utilized by millions of users around the world.

For The Discovery Channel, AI has supplied two Desktop Editions of its Thesaurus Master(TM) software to index and categorize content.

Thesaurus Master simplifies the process of constructing taxonomies by giving content managers complete access to the terms, their history, and the hierarchical branches that comprise the overall taxonomy. Users can utilize customized vocabularies in order to quickly and efficiently parse data. The software also provides many features that help content managers structure and adapt their taxonomies to best serve the evolving needs of end users.

"The Discovery Channel taxonomy covers a broad array of subjects to match the diverse programming at the network. The ability to reach down to the paragraph and image level using the taxonomy leverages the agility of the programming for each day," said Marjorie Hlava, Access Innovations president. Thesaurus Master is compliant with ISO 2788 (monolingual), ISO 5964 (multilingual) and NISO Z39.19.

The Weather Channel, meanwhile, recently purchased AI's MAIstro(TM) Enterprise Addition and contracted AI's editorial department for taxonomy development and rule building.

"The Weather Channel needed an efficient search engine in order to index the content of their newly constructed taxonomy. In addition to an engine that could rapidly parse data, The Weather Channel required the accuracy provided by MAIstro in order to differentiate between the subtle differences in weather patterns, as well as the images which portray the human factors in presenting the news," said Hlava.
