ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Sept. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- On September 23rd - 24th world music and culture will converge on Albuquerque, New Mexico. The second annual Globalquerque! festival (http://www.itsatrip.org/visitors/06_3global ) includes a week of preview events and concerts celebrating cultures from around the world. This exciting international festival is just one of many festivals hosted by Albuquerque (http://www.itsatrip.org/ ) each year.
World Music & Culture Festival and Global Village
Globalquerque! 2006 includes a preview week of celebrations with elements spanning the entire state, culminating in the two-day international festival at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque. Programming includes educational workshops, community outreach events, foreign films, a global village and the best in World Music on three distinct stages.
The world music & culture festival weekend, September 23-24, will present a wide range of artists from around the world including representative artists from New Mexico's varied musical traditions. Events include free afternoon activities on Saturday and Sunday from noon - 4p.m. The evenings offer a staggered schedule to allow spectators to sample the broadest range of the 16 performances on two indoor stages and the outdoor Plaza Mayor stage at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
International Music and International Dance Classes
On Saturday, September 23rd from noon - 4p.m. families are invited to enjoy music, street performers, instrument making, a World Game Tent, International Dance Classes (African, Samba, Belly Dance, Hula and more) and workshops on international music and culture. On Sunday, September 24th from noon - 4p.m. join a Master instrument class, international dance class, entertainment and educational workshops on international music and culture. The Global Village features food, music and crafts from New Mexico's diverse local ethnic communities running during both the free events and the evening ticketed events.
Weekend evening performances begin at 5:30p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Performers include: Kiran Ahluwalia (India), Charanga Cakewalk (USA/Mexico), Curumin (Brazil), Chirgilchin (Tuva), Gjallarhorn (Finland), Les Yeux Noirs (France/Judaic/Gypsy), Aurelio Martinez (Honduras), Oliver Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe), Nosotros (New Mexico), Prince Diabate (Guinea), Red Stick Ramblers (USA), Shooglenifty (Scotland), Slonovski Bal (Serbia) and Trio Jalapeno de Antonia Apodaca (New Mexico).
