'Saint of 9/11' to Screen in 12 Cities for 9/11/06, National 5th Anniversary Remembrance

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- "Saint of 9/11," the story of Father Mychal Judge, Chaplain, FDNY, will screen in 12 cities for the National 5th Anniversary Remembrance. Father Judge became the international symbol of heroism on 9/11 when a Reuters photograph depicted his body being removed from the World Trade Center. After the attack, it was revealed that Father Judge declined Mayor Rudy Giuliani's invitation to join him, instead choosing to be with the FDNY and victims of the terrorist attack.

Many of the 12 cities are inviting regional fire fighters to attend as their guests. The 12 cities include Boston, Denver, Ft. Lauderdale, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Patchogue (NY), Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Seattle. In Patchogue, Long Island, New York, the film will be introduced by Father Kevin Smith, Chaplain of the local fire department that responded on 9/11. Father Smith found Father Judge's body at Church and Vesey Streets and had it placed at the altar of St. Peter's Church in Lower Manhattan.

"Saint of 9/11" is the story of Father Judge, a first generation Irish immigrant who became a quintessential Franciscan priest and authentic American hero. The film had its world premiere at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival. The LA Weekly called it "magnificent" and The Philadelphia Inquirer said it is a "must-see film." Ian McKellen is the narrator of the film, which has an original music score by Michael Aharon.

In San Francisco, the screening is being sponsored by the San Francisco Police Association and San Francisco Fire Fighters Local 798. In Kansas City, the Interfaith Council and Human Relations Commission are collaborating. The Mayor has declared a citywide moment of silence before the screening.

The film will have its theatrical release at the IFC Center in Manhattan on September 6.
