Mrs Ratcliffe's Revolution Commences Production for Warner Bros. Pictures

Mrs Ratcliffe's Revolution Commences Production for Warner Bros. Pictures

LONDON, August 30/PRNewswire/ -- Principal photography has commenced in Hungary and the UK on
the comedy drama Mrs Ratcliffe's Revolution, it was announced today by Warner
Bros. Pictures International. The film is directed by award-winning British
filmmaker Bille Eltringham (The L Word, The Long Firm, This is not a Love
Song) and produced by Leslee Udwin (East is East) from a screenplay by Peter
Straughan and Bridget O'Connor.

Starring Catherine Tate (Love and Other Disasters, The
Catherine Tate Show) as the compassionate Dorothy Ratcliffe, Iain Glen
(Kingdom of Heaven, Tara Road, Resident Evil) as her zealous husband Frank,
and Heike Makatsch (Love Actually) as the beguiling Unger, Mrs Ratcliffe's
Revolution tells the emotional, touching and often hilarious story of one
dysfunctional family's journey from 1968 West Yorkshire to 19-below-freezing
East Germany and back again.

Uprooted by Frank's passion for Marx and Lenin and a desire to
escape the world of Marks & Spencer, the naive Ratcliffe family follows
Frank's dream from a bleak but free England to state-controlled East Germany.
With two daughters, rebellious teenager Alex and precociously talented
12-year-old Mary, as well as eccentric brother-in-law Phillip, Frank and
Dorothy embark upon a life-changing journey to survive the rigid constraints
of communist-controlled, depressed East German life and find their true
calling. In protecting her family and her personal moral code, Dorothy
discovers an inner strength and passion to assist in defections to the west,
planning her family's escape in her very own revolution.

Director Bille Eltringham has reunited her successful
award-winning production team from The Long Firm, including production
designer Malcolm Thornton (Othello, Oliver Twist, Vanity Fair), director of
photography Sean Bobbit (Wonderland) and composer Rob Lane (Daniel Deronda,
The Lost World). John Wilson (Billy Elliot) joins the team as editor.

Richard Fox, Executive Vice President, International, Warner
Bros. commented "In depicting a unique place and time, Mrs Ratcliffe's
Revolution tells a story that is at once intimate and universal. We're
delighted to work with Bille and her team on this exciting production."

Leslee Udwin, Producer added: "I am thrilled to be shooting
this wonderful film. I could not wish for a more talented director, cast and
team to help me realise this dream. Since East is East, I have been searching
for a suitable inspiring project with heart warming and comedic values which
I could feel passionate about producing and I am delighted to have found that
in Mrs Ratcliffe's Revolution."

Mrs Ratcliffe's Revolution will be released in UK in 2007 by
Warner Bros. Pictures. A Leslee Udwin/Assassin Films and UK Film Council
Production in association with Screen Yorkshire.
