LOS ANGELES, Aug. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Azteca America is pleased to announced that WTNO, Channel 22, which marks the network's 52nd affiliated station, began broadcasting on Monday at 4:45 pm to serve New Orleans' growing Hispanic community.
WTNO was previously operated as a home-shopping station. Its transmitter and tower were completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Azteca America's largest affiliate group, Una Vez Mas, acquired the station and rebuilt it, converting it to an Azteca America affiliate. In doing so, Una Vez Mas has demonstrated its confidence in the future of the city and the need for businesses to return investment to the devastated region.
"The reconstruction of this station is evidence of the strong commitment that Una Vez Mas and Azteca America have made in this great city with the community that is helping to rebuild it," said Luis J. Echarte, Chairman of Azteca America.
To inaugurate the station, Azteca America's network news is featuring a special weeklong news series focused on New Orleans and the impact of Hurricane Katrina.
