School Fundraising Goes Platinum

School Fundraising Goes Platinum

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- When you send your child back to school this year send extra pens with her because she might be signing a lot more autographs in her yearbook. That's because this year, Legacy Productions, a new Minneapolis record label, will record dozens of school choirs, bands, and individual artists, and produce their CD albums, making them feel like stars.

Legacy Productions provides full-service CD production free to your child's school and then splits profits from CD sales through fundraising. Legacy CDs sell for $20 each. Forty percent of profits go to the organization. Choirs and bands use the profits to buy new sheet music, choir robes, band instruments, and to help pay for trips and tours.

"I think some people are tired of traditional fundraisers," says Legacy's founder and President Mark Meikle. "Wrapping paper, coupons, and cookie dough are all great fundraising products, but they lack personality. When you buy a CD with the music of a student from your local school, you support the student not only financially, but also emotionally by taking an interest in his or her achievements," Meikle says. "Plus it is an exciting experience for the student to be able to record their own CD album," says Meikle.

Top selling students can win $100 cash or a chance to record their own individual demo CD album at Legacy's new Minneapolis studio. Demo CDs are useful when applying to music colleges.

"Traditionally, the complexities of producing a CD album meant that only top artists could record, with help from the big labels. Now we have made recording accessible to all. It is exciting to think of the undiscovered talent we might uncover as a result," says Meikle.

Legacy Productions has recorded dozens of school, church, and community bands, orchestras, choirs, and ensembles. Hear audio samples and buy CDs online at http://www.legacyfundraiser.com/ .

Legacy plans to record 100 music groups in 2006 and to expand beyond Minnesota in 2008.
