OpenTV Announces Participation in CableLabs OpenCable Initiative

SAN FRANCISCO, June 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- OpenTV Corp. (NASDAQ:OPTV), a leading provider of enabling technologies for advanced digital television services, today announced that it has agreed to participate in CableLabs(R) North American-focused OpenCable(TM) initiative, and has agreed to become a contributor to that effort.

The OpenCable Project was established by CableLabs and its member companies to develop a family of specifications to define interoperable digital cable television devices, and an associated interoperable software / middleware application platform known as OCAP(TM), as well as related test materials. With an increased focus on the North American cable market, OpenTV intends to work closely with CableLabs, and other MSOs, to accelerate the development of advanced digital television services. OpenTV brings a wealth of experience and intellectual property to the CableLabs effort, with more than 450 issued patents around the world and over 30 network operators having deployed its software solutions.
