'American Pie Presents Band Camp'
Drums Up Over 1 Million Units in First Week
Builds Further Momentum for Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Rogue Pictures' Successful DVD Originals(TM) Strategy
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- "American Pie Presents Band Camp," the latest DVD Original(TM) from Universal Studios Home Entertainment (USHE) and Rogue Pictures, lit up retail cash registers during the post-holiday frame. The fourth installment of Universal's outrageously raunchy blockbuster comedy franchise has sold more than one million combined DVD and VHS units since its December 26, 2005 street date.
The film's commanding debut follows the success of USHE and Rogue's first DVD Original(TM) release, "Carlito's Way Rise to Power." "American Pie Presents Band Camp" engaged a similarly innovative and aggressive marketing plan, including a high profile three-week ad campaign and theatrical trailers, to raise consumer awareness and interest in the DVD-only sequel.
"This second consecutive DVD Original(TM) hit reaffirms the viability of our innovative strategy for bringing exceptional content to the DVD marketplace," said Craig Kornblau, President, Universal Studios Home Entertainment. "The aggressive and unique approach to production, marketing and distribution, combined with the massive appeal of the "American Pie" franchise, proved an irresistible combination to consumers hungry for a post-holiday treat."
David Linde, President of Rogue Pictures added, "By creating higher-budgeted, theatrical-quality fare that brought together a winning script, terrific young cast and seasoned filmmaking talent, we were able to produce a direct-to-DVD follow-up worthy of the blockbuster trio of American Pie theatrical releases."
Available in unrated DVD and UMD versions as well as R-rated DVD and VHS versions, "American Pie Presents Band Camp" serves up another slice of one the most successful comedy franchises in movie history. Directed by Steve Rash ("Can't Buy Me Love"), the film features Eugene Levy, reprising his beloved role as "Jim's Dad." Levy is joined by a lovable and outrageous cast of characters led by Tad Hilgenbrinck as Steve Stifler's mischievous younger brother Matt, and Arielle Kebbel as Elyse, the leader of the raucous "bandies." The "American Pie Presents Band Camp" DVDs feature extensive extras, including deleted scenes, exclusive cast interviews, a set tour, an original featurette documenting the making of the film and an over-the-top music video. The unrated DVD includes even more steamy behind-the-scenes action, including a "love lesson" with former adult film star Ginger Lynn Allen.
