SPICE photography Show and Anonymous Silent Auction Ends Wednesday Night (2.9.2005) at the Carriage House Center in NYC

All proceeds to benefit Architecture for Humanitys' building effort in India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka

NEW YORK, Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Just over a month after the Indian Ocean tsunami, an exhibition and silent auction of over 400 photographs of South East Asia closes in New York City to raise funds for reconstruction projects in countries affected by the disaster.

In mid-January New York based photojournalist Jennifer MacFarlane sent out an email for people from all walks of life to submit a 5"x7" or 16"x20" photos for an exhibit and silent auction under the theme SPICE. Within days hundreds of photographers from across the United States, India, Sri Lanka, Denmark, Russia and the United Kingdom responded energetically to this word-of-mouth call for entries.

In addition to locals from the area and backpackers, the show includes prints from world famous professional photographers including Magnums' Burt Glinn, Steve McCurry, Susan Meiselas, and Martin Parr; film-makers Francis Ford Coppola and current Oscar nominated director (Born into Brothels)/Kids with Cameras founder, Zana Briski; and designers Future Systems, Jennifer Siegal, Vessel and Lebbeus Woods. National Geographic photographer David Alan Harvey and "Ancient Marks" photographer, Chris Rainier have also contributed alongside Here is New York coordinator, Charles Traub, and Bridges for Understanding activist, Amanda Koster.

On Wednesday, February 9 2005, The Carriage House Center will be host to the final night of the SPICE exhibition and anonymous silent auction. Due to demand and space capacity we are asking all who wish to attend to RSVP at spice@architectureforhumanity.org. At the end of the bidding the identity of the photographers will be revealed, a number of whom will be in attendance. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to Architecture for Humanitys' building projects in South East Asia.

"Architecture for Humanity represents the finest of the new breed of architectural leadership, employing architectural skills and directing them for the larger good," said Robert Ivy, Editor-in-Chief, Architectural Record.

SPICE closes on Wednesday February 9, 2005 at The Carriage House Center, located at 146 E 38th Street, in New York City, NY. Gallery hours are 7 pm - 10 pm. The event is supported by Architecture for Humanity-New York, Color Resource Center, Earthpledge, and Magnum Photos. Drinks and food provided by Dewars, Six Point Craft Ales, Casa Mono, Libation, Odea, and Scharffen Berger Chocolate Maker. Music by Jake Sanders. RSVP required at spice@architectureforhumanity.org
