Mayor of Los Angeles, Key Partners Support Day-Long Countywide Celebration of Live Music

LOS ANGELES, June 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Make Music Los Angeles (MMLA, www.MakeMusicLA.org), an annual day-long music festival featuring free outdoor music concerts in public places throughout the county, today announces that it will host its Second Annual celebration on Friday, June 21st, 2013. A kickoff concert will take place on Thursday, June 20th, on the south lawn of Los Angeles City Hall, 11:00AM-2:00PM, with performances by jazz vocal trio Chambers, Herbert and Ellis, conductor, composer, saxophonist Geoff "Double G" Gallegos Quintet, and Randal Fisher with Free Association.

Based on Paris, France's Fetedelamusique.culture.fr, now a national musical holiday inaugurated in 1982, the Make Music festival has become an international phenomenon celebrated in 500 cities and 110 countries around the world. Key supporters of this year's Los Angeles event include the Mayor's Office of Strategic Partnerships, Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, Beyond the Bell Branch, Los Angeles Unified School District, Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson and the Los Angeles City Council, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Metro, Santa Monica Mayor Pam O'Connor, and the Santa Monica Department of Cultural Affairs.

Fourth District Councilmember Tom LaBonge adds, "Music makes LA. It is our joy! Make Music Los Angeles." Councilmember LaBonge will celebrate the Summer Solstice with his annual hike up to Mt. Hollywood with music in celebration of MMLA.

Last year, public venues from Downtown to Santa Monica and from Leimert Park to the San Fernando Valley hosted more than 70 concerts throughout the day. This year, Make Music Los Angeles expects an even greater turnout, with new participating concert venues in Silver Lake, including Sunset Triangle Plaza, The Living Room, and Alegria on Sunset; Santa Monica, including 1450 Ocean and Palisades Park; the Central Library; Music of the Holocaust at the Holocaust Museum and Jazz at LACMA.
