A Father's Day Reunion: Son Samples Late Father's Groundbreaking Jazz-Funk Music on Unforgettable New EP 'Lucas High'
Features such legendary hip-hop acts as The Pharcyde and Big Daddy Kane
LOS ANGELES, June 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- A son reunites with his late father's music in a tribute record that brings together live instruments with acclaimed hip-hop artists including The Pharcyde, Big Daddy Kane, Guilty Simpson and Lady of Rage. Deep funk instrumentalists Connie Price & The Keystones release their third album "Lucas High EP" with featured guest musician Zach Lucas, son of Doug Lucas, a pioneering composer and trumpet player in the European jazz-funk scene of the 1970s. Using samples from Lucas' rare and diverse catalogue of jazz, funk, progressive, and afro-disco compositions, the new recordings create a unique conversation between father and son.

"Lucas High EP" is produced by Dan Ubick (Breakestra, The Lions) and Matt Fife, a television director ("House"). The record is Executive Produced by Fife and longtime friend David Klawans, a film producer ("Argo," "Nacho Libre") who is also the step-son of Doug Lucas. The album releases four tracks from the forthcoming full-length studio release "Lucas High," available this fall from A Man Called Horse Records. The full-length album features other guest artists from the celebrated 1990s era of hip-hop, including Talib Kweli, Soup and Marc 7 of Jurassic 5, Percee P., Brother J of X-Clan and a highly anticipated reunion of Brand Nubian.
Doug Lucas was an innovative horn player and composer who played in some of Europe's most seminal studio bands of the 70s including J.J. Band, Chakachas and Plus. Lucas also had an established solo career releasing the critically acclaimed jazz album "Niara" in 1975. That same year he co-wrote the S.S.O. disco hit "Tonight's the Night," which placed in the Billboard Hot 100. Over the years, Lucas' music has been sampled by notable artists such as Busta Rhymes, Aceyalone and Nas. Lucas passed away from Leukemia in 1994 when his son Zach was only 13. The two had just begun playing their instruments together.
Now, almost 20 years later, a son joins his father's lasting creative spirit in an album that also highlights one musician's rare and unsung legacy. Zach joins Connie Price & The Keystones, a seasoned funk revival group who have backed marquee acts including Slick Rick, EPMD and Rodriguez. The record creates a new and original spin of an old-school sound. This one is not to be missed.
"Lucas High EP" is now available for download at iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and other online retailers.
