Savannah Music Group to establish in-house licensing division

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 11, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Mark and Nick Mulch of Nashville's popular country music duo, the Mulch Brothers, have a new gig with a very familiar tune: they will be handling the licensing for their record label and music publisher, Savannah Music Group (SMG).

That's right--five years after they left their respective careers handling licensing in New York City to pursue their shared dream of writing and recording their own music, the two, as MGH Music Services, have signed with SMG to license existing Savannah songs and recordings for commercials, film and television as well as to oversee the creation of new material.

"We are excited to be able to start up this new division at Savannah," says Mark Mulch. "This will be even more meaningful than when we did licensing in the past because we bring to the mix the layered perspective of being two professional musicians signed to the label and publishing company as artists and songwriters."

"Savannah is a nimble, innovative company," adds Nick Mulch. "Therefore, they have the advantage of being able to grant licenses for both songs and master recordings more quickly than traditional publishers or record companies--with the added ability to write new material for specific film, TV and commercial projects."

This is the first foray for SMG into licensing. It currently consists of both a music publishing and a record company based in Nashville, Tenn.

"This partnership will create significant new revenue opportunities for Savannah writers and artists as well as for the company itself," says Ed Salamon, chief executive officer of Savannah Music Group.

In the past, the duo have licensed music from such figures as the Rolling Stones and Ray Davies of the Kinks to companies that include Chevrolet, Days Inn, Bacardi, Bud Light, Sprint and Coca Cola. They have also worked on national advertising campaigns with Stevie Wonder and LL Cool J, and Mark also brought Michael McDonald and James Taylor to MCI while working with the music supervision company Creative License in New York City.

"We think we'll have even more success this time around," concludes Mark "So far we are getting a great response from music supervisors and our industry peers when they realize we are artists and writers out working the catalog for the company that signed us." Nick adds "We've come around to thinking not only out of the box, but beyond the box."
