Smuin Ballet Brings Holiday Magic to the San Francisco Bay Area With 'The Christmas Ballet'

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Smuin Ballet, the sexy, vibrant and entertaining dance company with roots in classical ballet, announces the 2008 Edition of The Christmas Ballet. The Bay Area tradition returns this winter for a season of holiday fun and frolic set to both classic and contemporary musical selection reflecting the spirit of the season.

Featuring an elegant Classical Act and joyful Cool Act, The Christmas Ballet is a magical treat for audiences of all ages. Calling The Christmas Ballet "vintage Smuin," San Francisco Chronicle reviewer Rachel Howard claims, " ... it isn't quite Christmas in the Bay Area without it."

The 2008 Edition will feature new additions from guest choreographers Val Caniparoli and Viktor Kabaniaev as well as Smuin Ballet's Choreographer in Residence Amy Seiwert.

The Company will celebrate the holiday season with their Santa's Sweets event, where the young and the young-at-heart are welcomed to sample sweets brought by Santa himself and meet members of the Company. Parents are welcome to bring their cameras for pictures with the Smuin Ballet dancers and Santa. The event will follow a matinee performance at each of the four venues.

Smuin Ballet kicked off its 15th Anniversary Season at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco to critical acclaim. Choreographer in Residence Amy Seiwert's Been Through Diamonds exemplified her renowned "brilliant ... abstraction" according to Rachel Howard of San Francisco Chronicle. The program also featured Guest Choreographer Robert Sund's sexy, jazzy retelling Carmen as well as Michael Smuin's Dances with Songs, the performance that founded Smuin Ballet. The Company will be presenting future performances of this program in Walnut Creek, Mountain View and Carmel in February and March of 2009.
