Monster or Myth? Director Jay Gira Trusts Distraction to Ask the Question

Monster or Myth? Director Jay Gira Trusts Distraction to Ask the Question

ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Distraction has unveiled a unique documentary by first-time director Jay Gira, which gives the definitive insider's account about one of the most notorious celebrities of modern times: OJ Simpson.

Directly from the mouth of Simpson himself, with in-depth commentary from those closest to him and his legal issues, this fascinating documentary allows viewers to answer for themselves the key question being posed in the courtroom and around the world: "What is the true face of OJ Simpson?" The expose presents a thought-provoking reflection of the events and questions that surround Simpson, as both he and his many critics extensively detail their personal insight into the infamous murder trials, the recent publications alleging Mr. Simpson's confession and the issues surrounding his Vegas arrest.

The release of this compelling footage is timely given that Simpson's Vegas trial began as the film was scheduled for release. Furthermore, Simpson has not granted any other direct on-camera interviews since again becoming the focus of mainstream media headlines this past year.

According to Gira, "I was only 17 when the mass media converged upon OJ Simpson's first court case and became totally absorbed by what followed. And like most television viewers around the world, whether you believe him guilty or innocent, my intrigue continues to this day. Ironically, after an opportune encounter with Mr. Simpson in a Las Vegas hotel in 2005, I was given exclusive access to create a retrospective documentary on the 'trial of the century,' which years later clearly continued to have an enormous emotional impact on people. After production was unexpectedly sidetracked by Simpson's November 2007 arrest, he allowed me to continue my film based on the strong foundation of our relationship. It soon became clear that Mr. Simpson saw these exclusive interviews as perhaps his last meaningful chance to get his side of the story out before possibly being sentenced to life in prison."

Produced by U.S. production house Marquez Productions, the documentary follows Mr. Simpson as he revisits numerous Los Angeles landmarks made famous by the 1995 double homicide, including his former residences and the prison where he was held in solitary confinement for 17 months. Simpson also candidly reveals previously unknown details about his past and present struggles, while also addressing issues of celebrity, the legal system, race relations and how the media treats him unfairly.

Gira has also captured numerous other exclusive interviews, including Simpson's daughter Arnelle, members of his defense team from the 1995 trial, Alan Dershowitz and F. Lee Bailey, former Kobe Bryant defense attorney L. Lin Wood, as well as the prosecution led by high-profile attorney and author Marcia Clark.
