Circuit City Kicks Off Year-Long Education Campaign for 2009 Digital TV Transition with Live Web Forum Hosted by Sound & Vision Magazine
RICHMOND, Va., Feb. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Circuit City Stores, Inc. will initiate a year-long, multi-faceted campaign to educate the public about the nation's upcoming transition from analog to digital TV broadcasting, marking the one-year countdown with an interactive Web forum hosted by Sound & Vision Magazine's Technical Editor Al Griffin.
"Providing industry-leading information to consumers is one of our core commitments," said Brian S. Bradley, Circuit City's senior vice president, multi-channel. "We are ready to do our part to help Americans prepare for a significant shift in the way television is broadcast and received. We're particularly pleased to be working with Sound & Vision Magazine, a well- respected and trusted source for television trends and information."

"The analog TV airwaves are scheduled to go dark this time next year, but many people are still in the dark on whether their current sets can receive the new digital TV signals, and what they need to do to prepare for this change," said Griffin. "At Sound & Vision, it's our job to keep readers up to date on every aspect of home entertainment technology, so we're excited that Circuit City has provided a forum for us to educate consumers regarding this major change."
The Coming DTV Transition:
At midnight on February 17, 2009, all full-power television stations in the United States will stop broadcasting analog signals and switch to 100 percent digital broadcasting. TVs connected to satellite or cable providers will not be immediately affected by the DTV Transition. But millions of consumers who rely on over-the-air signals and who have older TV sets with analog only tuners will need to take steps to continue watching TV. The Digital TV Transition forum will focus on those steps, providing consumer- friendly tips and information.
Additional Circuit City Actions to Prepare for DTV Transition:
-- In the year leading up to the switch, Circuit City will enhance store
signage and provide additional educational resources in stores and
online at www.circuicity.com/tvsignal.
-- Circuit City Superstores will participate in the government coupon
program to help consumers purchase DTV converter boxes to receive
digital signals for analog TVs.
-- Circuit City will start stocking the DTV converter boxes the weekend of
February 17, 2008, priced at $59.99. (The government is expected to
mail the first round of coupons on or about February 19, 2008.)
-- More information about the DTV Transition and the government's coupon
program can be found at www.dtv2009.gov.
