Survey Reveals Movie Dos & Don'ts for Valentine's Day

Survey Reveals Movie Dos & Don'ts for Valentine's Day

Blockbuster Offers Advice on Best & Worst Date Movies

DALLAS, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- On most days of the year, the sexes just agree to disagree about movie choices. But, on Valentine's Day, BLOCKBUSTER(R) wants to help bridge the gap between Mars & Venus. The entertainment retailer is announcing the results of a survey identifying the best date movies to watch together. And, to ward off disasters for the most hapless lovers, the survey also reveals movies that the opposite sex loves to hate.

For those planning an at-home Valentine's Day celebration, the survey from BLOCKBUSTER identifies a host of romantic movies that both men and women say they'd enjoy watching with the opposite sex. In addition to a romantic plotline appealing to women, many of these films have comedy that appeals to men too, as in "50 First Dates," "Wedding Crashers" and "There's Something About Mary." Others manage to mix love and sports, as in "Jerry Maguire" and "Bull Durham."

America's picks for Best Date Movies are:
1. "50 First Dates"
2. "Casablanca"
3. "When Harry Met Sally"
4. "Wedding Crashers"
5. "The Princess Bride"
6. "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"
7. "Jerry Maguire"
8. "There's Something About Mary"
9. "Bull Durham"
10. "The Wedding Singer"

In the interests of helping couples keep the romance alive on Valentine's Day and beyond, BLOCKBUSTER is also announcing "anti-date" movies -- those most unlikely to woo the opposite sex. Survey respondents selected the films they would least like to have the opposite sex suggest for mutual viewing. While all of these movies are entertaining in their own right, these films are probably poor choices for date night.

For example, no matter how passionate men are about the adventures of John Rambo or the antics of the Delta fraternity, they'll probably want to skip "Rambo" and "Animal House" when romancing a love interest. And, while women may find the female bonds in "The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood" and "Beaches" heartwarming, these movies may leave their men feeling cold.

The Top 10 Anti-Date Movies for Her are:
1. "Rambo"
2. "Animal House"
3. "The Terminator"
4. "Apocalypse Now"
5. "Platoon"
6. "Full Metal Jacket"
7. "Kill Bill"
8. "Pulp Fiction"
9. "Scarface"
10. "The Godfather"

The Top 10 Anti-Date Movies for Him are:
1. "The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood"
2. "Beaches"
3. "Titanic"
4. "Dirty Dancing"
5. "Steel Magnolias"
6. "Love Story"
7. "The Notebook"
8. "Bridges of Madison County"
9. "Pretty In Pink"
10. "Sleepless In Seattle"

The Best Date Movies and Top Anti-Date Movies are available for rent at BLOCKBUSTER stores or online at www.blockbuster.com.

Survey results are from a February 2008 omnibus survey conducted by e-Rewards on behalf of Blockbuster Inc.
