FableVision and Thinking Moves Launch Embodied Cognition Product Line, 'Body Puzzles for the Mind'

SmartMoves, the first research-based 'Body Puzzles for the Mind' product, joins Movement and Music to Increase Focus, Memory and Academic Performance

BOSTON, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- FableVision, the award-winning educational developer and publisher, and Thinking Moves, a Wisconsin-based learning- development company, announced today the release of SmartMoves, a DVD featuring a series of forty body movements, choreographed to music, that are designed to increase academic performance, information retention and focus. SmartMoves is the first of a series of products based on the burgeoning field of embodied cognition theory.

The techniques used in SmartMoves are based on a rapidly growing scientific research into the relationships between rhythm, pattern acquisition, movement, music, games and brain development. Recent studies in the field of embodied cognition from University of Central Florida, Arizona State University and University of Wisconsin's Laboratory of Embodied Cognition show a clear link between body movement and the brain's increased ability to learn, focus and retain information.

"We've turned our body cognition research into tools that everyone can benefit from," said Roberta Scherf, president and founding partner of Thinking Moves. The benefits and necessity of physical movement is becoming increasingly well documented for all ages and those with learning disabilities such as ADHD, autism and Alzheimer's.

"SmartMoves embodies the creative, out-of-the-box approach to reach all learners which is the hallmark of the FableVision educational software product line," said Jane Reynolds, executive partner of FableVision. "This is a fun, easily accessible tool for teachers and parents that can expand students' learning aptitude, reduce disciplinary problems and time spent refocusing students between activities, resulting in a happier, less stressful environment for everyone."

"The results were nothing short of miraculous. After one month of these rhythm and movement games, every one of her switches turned from off to on," said Scherf, about her learning disabled daughter whom was her inspiration. "I knew I had to create a resource to help other parents struggling with similar issues."

Thinking Moves works with The Media Psychology Research Center to further test the long-term efficacy of the SmartMoves methodology. The SmartMoves DVD, priced at $129, is available for purchase at www.fablevision.com/smartmoves.

Volume discounts are available.
