Gas prices this summer reaching four dollars a gallon are expected by seventy-one percent of Americans, of whom fifty-one percent cite fuel prices as their number one economic worry for 2008, ahead of fears of recession, the mortgage foreclosure meltdown and the prospect of more joblessness. The survey of one-thousand Americans was conducted for the nonprofit and nonpartisan Civil Society Institute think tank and its Forty-M-P-G-dot-org project. It also found that what presidential and congressional candidates say about energy issues could have a big impact on the outcome of the 2008 elections.

Marin Institute, the alcohol industry watchdog, is demanding N-F-L commissioner Roger Goodell and others, stop advertising and marketing beer during the Super Bowl, a sporting event known to reach millions of young viewers. The Institute strongly believes alcohol advertising has no place in televised sports, an opinion shared by a large majority of Americans. A survey by the Center for Science in the Public Interest notes seventy-two percent of Americans say that showing beer ads during sporting events is inconsistent with the positive role of sports for children.
