Gore's "Seven Points" for Live Earth Reinforce Corporate Climate Change Message of Stonyfield Farm-funded Group

Climate Counts says not all companies equal in addressing global warming; consumers have choices in all sectors, even cell phones, beer, and burgers

LONDONDERRY, N.H., July 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Organic yogurt pioneer Stonyfield Farm today applauded former Vice President Al Gore and the organizers of the upcoming Live Earth concerts for their "7 Point Pledge" describing clear actions that individuals can take to combat global climate change. The pledge urged people to support businesses committed to actively addressing what Gore and others have called the "climate crisis."

Stonyfield Farm, funder of the new non-profit organization Climate Counts, is one of the eight official corporate sponsors of Live Earth, which will hold major, 24-hour concert events across all seven continents on July 7. Organizers expect to reach as many as two billion people with shows by over 100 well-known musicians and other artists.

Stonyfield Farm CEO and Climate Counts board chair Gary Hirshberg signed the "7 Point Pledge" and expressed strong support for its impetus: "Action is everything when it comes to stopping climate change. Vice President Gore's leadership on this issue is clear in the pledge and demonstrates how the concert will have a major positive impact by helping people reduce their negative impact on global warming. Just as we've found with Climate Counts, people want to know what they can do to get involved, and one of the most important things they can do is get behind companies that are serious about fighting climate change."

Stonyfield Farm signed on to sponsor Live Earth because the global event is consistent with the company's long-standing reputation as a business with strong environmental values. Since its inception nearly 25 years ago, Stonyfield Farm has supported non-profit efforts that benefit the planet. The recent launch of Climate Counts, a non-profit effort bringing consumers and companies together in the fight to stop climate change, is the most recent and high-profile initiative made possible by Stonyfield Farm's Profits for the Planet program. Climate Counts scores the climate protection efforts of well- known companies in major consumer sectors and ranks those companies to foster climate-conscious purchasing and investing. The organization's first findings were announced on June 19 and are available at http://www.climatecounts.org/ .
