NBC 10 News Presents a Compelling One-Hour Special That You Won't Want to Miss
"Making a Safer City: Do Something" Thursday, June 28th at 7PM
BALA CYNWYD, Pa., June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- In an ongoing effort to address the high number of murders committed in Philadelphia, NBC 10 News presents the fifth installment of "Making a Safer City: Do Something," airing on Thursday, June 28th, from 7-8PM. The NBC 10 News Team reports on steps being taken to resolve this critical issue. Also, NBC10.com will unveil an interactive "Safer City Map" that not only shows the city's 'hot zones' (areas most threatened by murder crimes), but it also provides a list of resources for children in the city and ways that you can help by becoming a part of the solution, instead of the problem.
"Making a Safer City: Do Something" will take an inspirational and in- depth look at ordinary people making a difference in the lives of children. This show will feature numerous programs ranging from the Philadelphia Police Department's Police Athletic League (PAL), a program designed to build one on one relationships between police and inner-city youth, to The Strawberry Mansion Little League, a newly formed league in the heart of North Philadelphia. There are nine teams that total 147 children who are playing baseball instead of wandering the streets.
Additionally, this special will include interviews with a group of second grade students at a local elementary school who published a book based on the Lost Dreams Project, which is a program where local artists donate their talent and time to paint portraits of young murder victims in the city. A local mother expresses the excruciating pain of losing two of her sons to gun violence. Also, a group of students from Germantown High School discuss a documentary that they put together about violence in schools. Through spotlighting the examples of people who are doing something, the special shows viewers how they can make a difference by volunteering their time.
