Historic Mexico vs. Argentina Match will Telecast Live from Houston's Robertson Stadium
'Soccer Star' Fan Parties to Take Place in Los Angeles and Miami; Inner City Children to Attend Soccer Finale
HOUSTON, June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The excitement is mounting as Mexican and Argentine soccer fans and athletes anticipate their teams' historic match in this year's "El Reto Final Nissan 2." Taking place this Saturday at Robertson Stadium in Houston, TX, the match marks the final episode of the second installment of this groundbreaking and award-winning, five-part reality series and will crown the undisputed soccer champion of the Americas. Fox Sports en Espanol will telecast the match live at 9:00PM ET/ 6:00PM PT.
"El Reto Final Nissan 2" is a five-part reality show that premiered exclusively in Spanish on Fox Sports en Espanol on April 29 and energized soccer fans nationwide as legendary members of two of the most powerful Latin American soccer teams in history were located, trained and prepared for the final match.
With two exciting viewing parties in Miami and Los Angeles, a check presentation for $25,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Houston, and all the thrill of this match, "El Reto Final Nissan 2" will provide players and fans alike with an unprecedented opportunity to relive old rivalries as they eagerly await the finale.
"For soccer enthusiasts in Los Angeles and Miami, we are delighted to announce that we will host a VIP 'Soccer Star' party to celebrate and experience the excitement of 'El Reto Final Nissan 2' finale at Novecento Restaurant in Miami for Argentine fans and La Huasteca Restaurant in Los Angeles for Mexican supporters," says Jan Thompson, vice president of marketing for Nissan North America. "We look forward to spreading the soccer fever to fans in both cities with fun, celebration and true sportsmanship."
The Mexican and Argentine teams have had a storied rivalry. In 1993 Mexico was able to tie (1-1) a well-respected Argentine team in the first round of play at the Copa America Ecuador. Both teams met again in the Finals where Gabriel Batistuta scored two goals for Argentina who destroyed the "Mexican dream" with a 2-1 victory. The following year, at the Copa America Peru 2004, the Argentines were beaten by the Mexican team after a goal by Ramon Morales. A year later both teams met again at the Copa Confederacion, where Argentina's Luciano Figueroa sealed the 1-0 victory with the game's lone goal during the extra time (110 mins). During the unforgettable FIFA World Cup 2006, Maximiliano Rodriguez classified Argentina for the quarterfinals by defeating Mexico (2-1).
"This series has been such a great opportunity for all of us to reconnect and relive the past victories and losses against our opponent team. We are looking forward to the finale," says Alberto Garcia Aspe or "El Beto," co-captain with Luis Alves Zague of the Mexican team.
"We always enjoy rehashing the memories of past games with other teams and especially with Mexico. This game will most notably be one that we will recall for years to come," says Sergio Goycochea or "Atajapenales," co-captain with Alejandro Mancuso of the Argentine team.
Another component of this exciting finale will be the involvement of the Boys and Girls Club. Nissan is donating $25,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Houston, and children from this organization (our future "soccer stars") will participate in the opening ceremony of the final match. "It is an honor for us to have been selected by Nissan to participate along with legendary soccer stars in this final match," said John Havard, president of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Houston. "The $25,000 donation from Nissan will help us create more sports and recreations programs to inspire our local children, who can become the stars of tomorrow."
"El Reto Final Nissan 2" is a joint production between Animus Group and Zeal Television.
