Health Care America Asks Members of Congress: Do You Support Government-Run Health Care?
WASHINGTON, June 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Health Care America sent the following letter to all members of Congress and presidential candidates today, asking them whether they support Michael Moore's plan for a government- run health care system in the U.S. The results of this informal survey will be released in the coming weeks via press release and on our web site.
Dear Sir or Madam:
As you are no doubt aware, Michael Moore's new movie SiCKO, a commentary on the current U.S. health care system, will be released on June 29th. Mr. Moore's is the latest voice to join the call for health care reform -- and I'm glad such a notable moviemaker has lent his not insignificant star power to this issue. Reforming our health care system deserves a robust national debate, and Mr. Moore's efforts to focus our collective attention deserve our thanks.
To coincide with his movie, Mr. Moore has released a three-part plan for reform. The plan, as outlined on his web site, is simple: 1) every American must have full, uninterrupted health care coverage for life; 2) private, for- profit health insurance companies must be abolished; and 3) profits of pharmaceutical companies must be strictly regulated like a public utility. Given the attention Mr. Moore's plan has recently garnered, Americans deserve to know whether his ideas are as praiseworthy as some believe them to be.
As a member of Congress, you are in a position to credibly evaluate the merits of Mr. Moore's plan. Health Care America (HCA) -- a non-profit, non- partisan advocacy organization devoted to improving the access and affordability of health care for all Americans -- wants you and your colleagues' position on Mr. Moore's plan. To keep voters informed, HCA will publish, via press release and our web site, the results of this informal poll. Also, in the interest of offering as much information on this topic as possible, included is some information about government-run health care systems which Mr. Moore left out of his film.
When it comes to health care, the American people want answers. Voters strongly believe that we have a moral obligation to ensure all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care. It's time for our legislators to deliver a realistic solution to the problems riddling our system -- and that starts by going on record about how reform should look. Please let us know if you do or do not support Michael Moore's plan by E-mailing us at info@healthcare-america.org. We look forward to hearing from you in the very near future.
Sincerely,
Sarah Berk
Executive Director, Health Care America
