amfAR Returns to Cannes to Raise Funds for AIDS Research

NEW YORK, May 3/PRNewswire/ --

- Event to be Presented by Bold Films, the M.A.C AIDS Fund, and
the Weinstein Company

- Chopard, Hewlett-Packard Company, and Warner Home Video to Co-Sponsor
Event

Sharon Stone, Harvey Weinstein, M.A.C AIDS Fund Chairman John Demsey,
Michel Litvak, Vincent Roberti, Carine Roitfeld, Sophie Marceau, Mario
Testino, Vincent Roberti, Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele and amfAR's Chairman of
the Board Kenneth Cole will serve as chairs of amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS
event, to be presented on May 23 by Bold Films, the M.A.C AIDS Fund and The
Weinstein Company during the 60th annual Cannes International Film Festival.
Dame Elizabeth Taylor, amfAR's founding international chairman, and Dr.
Mathilde Krim, founding chairman, will serve as the evening's honorary
chairs.

The star-studded event to benefit amfAR will take place at Le
Moulin de Mougins and will feature a formal dinner along with amfAR's
world-renowned live auction. Harvey Weinstein and Sharon Stone, tireless
advocates for AIDS research and amfAR, will conduct the much anticipated live
auction with the assistance of several of the event chairs and other
celebrities in the room. In years past, the auction has seen legendary
impromptu performances by stars such as Sir Elton John, Robin Williams,
Natalie Cole, Liza Minnelli, Sheryl Crow, Ringo Starr, Lionel Richie, Macy
Gray, Shirley Bassey, and Milla Jovovich. Last year's live auction, conducted
by Harvey Weinstein and Sharon Stone, raised US$2 million, bringing
the event's fundraising total to US$4 million.

This year's live auction will include a special performance by M.A.C AIDS
Fund and VIVA Glam spokesperson Dita Von Teese. Cannes is one stop on her
world "Lipteese" tour where she has been raising awareness of the importance
of safe sex and HIV prevention via a sexy burlesque performance. The event's
environment will be art directed by French Vogue editor-in-chief, Carine
Roitfeld and will include immense mural-sized photographs by Mario Testino.

amfAR's annual Cinema Against AIDS gala has been an important and
successful fund-raising event for the Foundation since 1993, generating more
than US$22 million for essential AIDS research. Past events have been hosted
by Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Sharon Stone, Demi Moore, and Sir Elton John.

Like the epidemic itself, AIDS research knows no borders, and amfAR's
programs have had a global reach since 1986, when the Foundation began
awarding international grants. Today, amfAR continues to fund HIV/AIDS
researchers worldwide and works to translate that research into effective
treatment, prevention, and education programs around the world.

Tables range in price from US$30,000 to US$100,000 and the event is
nearly sold out. For event reservations and details, please call
+1-212-219-0297 or visit www.amfar.org.

amfAR recognizes American Airlines for its commitment to the fight
against AIDS and its generous support of amfAR's mission.
