'Radio Free Current' Seeks to Give The Current's Audience an Interactive, Meaningful Voice in the Selection of the Station's Music
ST. PAUL, Minn., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- On Tuesday, May 1 The Current(TM) will turn the station over to its listeners. From 9 a.m.-11 p.m. "Radio Free Current" will be a day of music chosen entirely by The Current's audience -- both its radio listeners and fans from around the world who listen via The Current's live Web stream at http://thecurrent.org/.
"We created Radio Free Current to give our audience another way in to The Current community," says Steve Nelson, program director, 89.3 The Current. "The Current would not exist without the community that supports it, so we want to interact with that community in as many ways as we can."
Beginning Monday, April 23 users will be able to log on to The Current's Web site -- thecurrent.org -- make requests, pick three song sets and tell The Current why they want to hear a particular song. Then on May 1 from 9 a.m.-11 p.m. The Current DJs will spin the most popular and most interesting listener requests. "Radio Free Current" will also feature hourly runoff online voting for particular artists. Until April 27, listeners can also upload audio of themselves talking about "Radio Free Current." We'll choose the best listener- submitted audio to play on May 1.
