'Sayonara' Simon Cowell: Dana Greene's 'Kids Camp Idol' Wins Every Time
Los Angeles-based Vocal Coach Shows 'Tweens' How to Take the Stage in Life and Music
LOS ANGELES, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Move over Simon Cowell, Vocal Coach Dana Greene is training the next generation of star singing talents with Dana Greene Vocal Works and Kids Camp Idol. Los Angeles resident Teira Church, age 14, just won a 2007 Music Center Spotlight Award for her final performance of "Redeemer" after studying with Greene for less than a year. An innovative music instructor, Greene is the founder of "Kids Camp Idol" that offers kids ages 7 to 12 a head start on their technique in order to develop the confidence required to perform at any venue, or even the world stage. And you won't get booted from Kids Camp Idol, even if your hairdo makes Sanjaya Malakar, the 17-year-old "American Idol" bad-hair phenom, look positively primped.
Berry Gordy, a legend in the music business, said "Dana really knows how to bring it out in these kids." A veteran musician and performer, Greene trained Teira Church using her specialized vocal techniques geared toward the young changing voice. Church's Grand Prize win was in the category of 'Non- Classical Voice' at the prestigious 19th Annual Music Center Spotlight Awards held April 14, 2007 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles, CA. The event was hosted by award-winning actor John Lithgow and featured young contestants selected from 2000 hopefuls. Church and the other finalists received cash scholarships worth $6000 USD each, with Spotlight prizes totaling $100,000 USD.
"While there are kids with natural talents, vocal instruction in this 'tween' age range requires a special sensitivity to their changing bodies and tones," said Greene, who is featured on the duet "Wish" with the legendary Bobby Womack. "My number one goal is to teach them to dig deep within and tap into their spirit. These kids develop a lifelong enjoyment and appreciation for live performance that outstrips any 15 minutes in the spotlight."
Dana Greene Vocal Works (www.danagreenevocalworks.com) familiarizes kids with microphone technique, audition skills, performance tips, and an amazing vocal technique, while focusing on individual style, charisma and personal confidence. Walt Disney Studios tapped Greene as a vocal coach for the musical "NEWSIES," starring Christian Bale and Bill Pullman. Kids Camp Idol is a two- week intensive with a formal finale live performance required. This year's Kids Camp Idol will be held at the Adderley School for the Performing Arts in Pacific Palisades, CA.
Kids Camp Idol offers a chance to integrate individual skills in a peer group setting with dedicated students who forge lifelong friendships through performance. Kids Camp Idol Band also allows kids the experience and thrill of working with a live band of professional musicians.
While voice lessons are largely unavailable in schools since funding for music has been cut in recent years, Dana Greene Vocal Works offers Vocal and Performance Technique, Showmanship, Dance Moves, and Rhythm Jam with Jim Avakian, a master musician and multi-instrumentalist. All the newest dance moves are taught by movement specialist/professional dancer Stacey Hart. Tuition is $700, with negotiated discounts for top tier audition students with specific financial needs. Registration for Kids Camp Idol can be made via email or by phone at 310.650.SING.
