Sun-Times Media Group Announces Rick Surkamer as Vice President of Operations

CHICAGO, Jan. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sun-Times Media Group, Inc. (NYSE:SVN) today announced Rick Surkamer as Vice President of Operations for the Company. In his new post, Surkamer will be responsible for pre-press, production, distribution and customer service, facilities and procurement.

Most recently, Surkamer, 54, was President and Chief Operating Officer of Rollex Corp., a manufacturer and distributor of building products based in Elk Grove Village, Ill. While there, he led a team that improved manufacturing and distribution operations while shedding non-core assets.

"Rick Surkamer has demonstrated leadership across a diverse set of industries and businesses, including printing, manufacturing, distribution, Internet services, technology and newspapers," said Cyrus F. Freidheim, Jr., Sun-Times Media Group Chief Executive Officer. "His knowledge of the newspaper industry, printing, technology and distribution will be an important asset as we move the Company forward," Freidheim said.

Surkamer began his career in newspapers with the Chicago Tribune, where he held a variety of managerial positions in circulation, distribution and production. He served as Senior Vice President for Global Marketing for Goss International, the world's leader in printing systems for newspapers. While he was there, the company's sales increased 30 percent.

A past chairman of the International Newspaper Group, Surkamer is also founding chair and member of the Economic Development Council of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce. He is a long-time board member of NORBIC, now the Illinois Alliance for Manufacturing.

Surkamer holds an MBA from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. He resides in Lake Forest, Ill.

Surkamer replaces Acting Vice President of Operations Scott Springer, who will transition his current activities, projects and responsibilities to Surkamer and will continue to support operations management.
