The Michigan Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Honors Attorney Henry Baskin With Silver Circle(R) Award

The Michigan Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Honors Attorney Henry Baskin With Silver Circle(R) Award

BIRMINGHAM, Mich., Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- One of Metro Detroit's most respected and nationally-known attorneys and media personalities, long admired for giving back so much to our State and communities, will be honored as a Silver Circle(R) inductee of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Michigan Chapter.

Henry Baskin, Birmingham-based attorney, specializing in entertainment and family law, will be honored when the Michigan Chapter of the NATAS hosts the Silver Circle(R) award ceremony at The Townsend Hotel (100 Townsend Street, Birmingham) on Sunday, February 25, 2007 at 12:00 p.m.

Baskin has had a remarkable impact on the Detroit area television industry, both on-camera, as host of "Due Process" on WDIV-TV 4, one of Detroit's longest running public affairs programs; and as an entertainment attorney, representing a large percentage of the area's on-camera talent.

Hosted by WDIV-TV 4 and with production sponsored by the Oakland County Bar Association, "Due Process" during its more than 20 year run made legal matters accessible as well as entertaining to early morning risers on weekends. The shows were topical, addressing such issues as holiday safety, drunken-driving or family disputes. Notable guest over the years included Jack Kevorkian, F. Lee Bailey, L. Brooks Patterson and Governor Jennifer Granholm.

As Detroit's leading entertainment attorney, Baskin was instrumental in forging modern-day compensation systems for on-air talent and helping the broadcast industry grow its overall economic worth. His early work in entertainment law put him at the center of the Detroit music, radio and television scene, representing legendary performers and artists including Marvin Gaye, The Temptations and The Rolling Stones. He has represented virtually all of Detroit's on-air TV talent including local icons such as Bill Bonds, Jack LeGoff and Marilyn Turner, and presently represents some of the areas most popular and respected talent, including Huel Perkins, Jerry Hodak, Fanchon Stinger, Glenn Haege, Dick Purtan and John Mason in contract negotiations.

Baskin has amassed an impressive list of professional accomplishments. He authored Michigan's Child Custody Act; chaired the Domestic Violence Task Force; is responsible for the creation of Michigan's personal protection orders; has served multiple terms on the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission; Commissioner of the State Bar of Michigan; and received in 2002 the State Bar of Michigan's "Champion of Justice" Award. Baskin serves as Chairman of Oakland University Governing Board, where he also established the Baskin Family Foundation, providing need-based scholarships to students of single- parent families and support for the College of Arts and Science's Judaic Studies program.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' Silver Circle(R) honors media professionals who began their careers in television at least 25 years ago, either in a performing, creative, technical or administrative role within the industry or in an area related to television such as TV journalism education, advertising, promotion, and public relations. The candidates must have made a significant contribution to the industry. The Michigan Chapter has been honoring and celebrating Silver Circle(R) members since 1987.
