Authors Revolutionize Scrapbooking With Appearance on ABC's 'The View'

VALENCIA, Calif., Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Television host Rosie O'Donnell called "Visual Chronicles: The No-Fear Guide to Creating Art Journals" "the only book you'll ever need" about scrapbooking and art journaling. Now, fresh off their appearance on ABC's The View, authors and sisters Linda Woods and Karen Dinino are putting the final touches on their follow-up book, "Journal Revolution: Rise Up and Create."

"Rosie's enthusiasm for self-expression through art made 'The View' a perfect place to explore visual journaling," says Linda Woods, co-author of "Visual Chronicles." "She and Elisabeth Hasselbeck shared our excitement about showing people how easy - and inexpensive - it is to create art that is uniquely yours."

"Visual Chronicles" revolutionizes traditional scrapbooking and journaling. The sister-authors show readers a new kind of art journaling, relying not on stylized products or rigid rules, but, as Woods describes, "on personal style, imagination, and common household art supplies." With "Visual Chronicles," Woods and Dinino give humor-filled projects and insight that turns writers into artists, artists into writers, and everyone into storytellers.

Free from the stereotyped image of traditional scrapbooking, "you don't need a lot of materials to keep an art journal the Visual Chronicles way," explains co-author Karen Dinino. "With a glue stick and a pen, you can create meaningful art and social commentary. From the candy wrapper at the bottom of your purse to the song lyric scribbled on the notepad in your car, there's art waiting to be seen all around you," she says.

In May of 2007, Woods and Dinino will take their "revolution" to Italy for The Artful Journey: Mixing the Media of Art and Travel. The weeklong workshop in Tuscany emphasizes laughter, observation, and self-expression. "Participants will capture the colors, sounds, aromas, and textures of their personal interaction with Italy, then convey their experiences, as art, through their visual journaling. We'll also eat really good food!" promises Woods.

In 2007, Woods and Dinino will also join the faculty of the prestigious Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY, where artists, poets, and writers such as Lynda Greenberg, Maya Angelou, and Lynda Barry have taught for years. "Our workshops will explore mindful visual journaling," says Dinino. "We will focus on seeing differently, and fearlessly expressing the many ways we are all art."
