Putting Up a Good Fright: New Sound Effects CD Makes Halloween Scary Again

Putting Up a Good Fright: New Sound Effects CD Makes Halloween Scary Again

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- It's a new trick for Halloween that can turn into a big treat.

3D Environmental Audio makes a trip to your doorstep the creepiest, most-blood curdling attraction in the neighborhood. Kids will cringe waiting for their candy, or flee before they can say "Trick or Treat."

One way to get in on that experience is with Darwin Chamber's latest "3D Halloween Sound FX 2006," which will be released Oct. 10 exclusively on iTunes ($9.99).

"All of the Halloween albums currently available are suitable for very young children. I wanted to create a Halloween album where the listener truly felt trapped inside a nightmare," Chamber said. "Everyone loves Halloween, and that includes adults too. So why not make an album that adults can find frightening?"

The album can be used to especially good effect at Halloween parties. Play the album inside a dark hallway where guests will feel like they're trapped. Or keep people cringing in your kitchen by using hidden mini-speakers.

"What I do is trick your ear into believing that sound is hitting it from unusual angles and from different areas, not like what you experience with a normal flat wall of sound," Chamber said.

3D audio has been around since the mid-70s but only a handful of people know the technical process of actually rendering the sound. Chamber's 3D environments have gained so much popularity that a number of his albums have hit #1 on iTunes charts. Some of his other works include 3D Rainforest Environment, 3D Thunderstorm Environment, and 3D Songbird Environment.

A pioneer in this production technique, Chamber places real natural sound sequences as his background and layers it with other raw sounds found in that environment. At the end, the finished digitized track puts the listener at the scene of the environment unlike any other recording available.
