The Metropolitan Opera House Launches Capital Campaign
WHAT: The Metropolitan Opera House Launches Capital Campaign
Philadelphia, PA September 22, 2006- More than 1000 people are
expected to attend a day-long festival in support of the launch
of a capital campaign for renovations to the 98-year-old
Metropolitan Opera House (the Met), at Broad and Poplar Streets,
in North Central Philadelphia. When it was built by Oscar
Hammerstein, Sr. in 1908, the Met was the largest theater of its
kind in the world. Later in its life, the building was converted
to use as a church.
Several of the city's most influential elected officials are
expected to offer remarks, beginning at 12 Noon.
As part of the day's program, the organizers are hosting The
Pepsi Gospel Talent Hunt, sponsored by the local Pepsi Bottling
Group of Philadelphia, PA.
This contest will judge choirs, praise dance, and step teams from
across the city. The Gospel Talent Hunt kicks off at 1:00 pm.
