More than three-quarters of Americans believe gas prices will continue to climb, and an equally high percentage say they've had to cut back or change spending habits already because of their gas bills.
The survey by the Boston Consulting Group found that while, as a whole, Americans say they're still confident they'll be able to maintain their current lifestyle, most probably through smart spending practices, the impact of the cost of gas on households with less than 75-thousand dollars of annual income is significant.

Sales of Alternative Fuel Autos Continue to Rise
Facing rising gas prices, automakers say Americans are buying more alternative fuel autos, including hybrids, diesel and ethanol- capable vehicles.
The number of alternative fuel automobiles on U-S roads has reached nine million, according to new figures released by R-L Polk and Company. The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers said that there were approximately eight- point-three million alternative fuel autos on the road at the close of 2005, and more than 700-thousand hybrids, diesel and ethanol vehicles have been purchased in the first half of 2006. That puts automakers on track to reach their goal of sales of a million. Automakers have set a goal of selling one million hybrids, diesel and ethanol vehicles in 2006, and two million by 2008.
Automakers are now selling 46 models of alternative fuel autos, including ethanol vehicles capable of running on 85 percent ethanol, clean diesel autos and hybrid electric vehicles. Another 35 models of alternative fuel autos are in development for future introduction.
