Ikanos' Solutions Selected by Sumitomo Electric Networks for Next Generation Broadband Equipment
Multi-Mode VDSL2 Chipsets Enable Optimal IPTV Delivery
FREMONT, Calif., Aug. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ikanos Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:IKAN), a leading developer and provider of Fiber Fast(TM) broadband solutions, today announced that Sumitomo Electric Networks, Inc. (SEN), one of Japan's leading communications equipment manufacturers, has selected Ikanos' Fx(TM)100100-5 and Fx100100S-5 CO and CPE chipsets for its next generation of broadband equipment. SEN's selection of Ikanos' products will enable Japanese carriers to deliver high-performance, symmetric 100 Mbps bandwidth as well as POTS-compatible "IP-Phone" services.
Ikanos' multi-mode chipsets are the first to offer many new features for optimized IPTV delivery, such as integrated QoS and enhanced impulse noise protection schemes. These features are expected to enable unsurpassed triple play experiences for consumers. Ikanos' fifth generation chipsets are designed to provide the highest throughput and density, with the lowest per port power consumption, thereby enabling OEMs to offer high-density systems that reduce carriers' capital expenditures and operating expenditures. The Fx100100-5 and Fx100100S-5 chipsets are also backward compatible with deployed modems, facilitating smooth upgrades for carriers.
"SEN selected Ikanos' Fx100100-5 and Fx100100S-5 multi-mode VDSL2 chipsets as they enable us to offer differentiated, industry-leading products," said Tetsuya Taguchi, senior general manager of the Technologies Group and Development Group at SEN. "Additionally the chipsets allow us to leverage extensive past investments in software, ensuring that our development costs are minimized."
"We are pleased that Sumitomo Electric Networks, one of the leading DSLAM manufacturers in Japan, has chosen Ikanos to provide VDSL2 chipsets for its next generation of broadband equipment," said Rajesh Vashist, chairman and CEO of Ikanos. "SEN's selection validates our continued leadership in delivering high-performance, IPTV-optimized, multi-mode VDSL2 products."
