CTL Corporation Creates State-of-the-Art Computer Recycling Program

CTL Corporation Creates State-of-the-Art Computer Recycling Program

CTL Offers Free Up-Front and End-of-Life Recycling for All CTL PCs

PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Computer and television manufacturer CTL Corporation has launched an unprecedented free front-end and end-of-life take-back recycling program for all CTL PCs, beginning immediately and available to all standard CTL customers.

"While CTL has for years offered a take-back program for electronics equipment, we took at look at the program and wanted to have 100 percent participation," said Erik Stromquist, CTL executive vice president. "With more than two million tons of electronics discarded each year, it is more crucial than ever for companies like ours to be environmentally responsible. By offering a free take-back program our goal is to ensure our customers will recycle."

Each CTL computer now includes a coupon for free up-front take-back of the customer's previous computer as well as complimentary end-of-life recycling services for the computer that is purchased. For more information, please call Mike Mahanay at 971-327-0101.

This announcement comes just after CTL was recognized as part of EPEAT, a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) funded effort to identify high-performance, environmentally friendly computer equipment. CTL's Meridian(TM) SL700 was recognized among other electronics equipment made by large computer manufacturers for meeting the new environmental standard. The CTL Meridian SL 700 uses less energy, contains a lead-free Intel(R) mainboard, comes in an easy-to-recycle box and includes a coupon for free end-of-life disposal for the computer.

Electronics are a fast growing portion of the municipal waste stream. According to the Green Electronics Council, approximately two million tons of used electronics, including computers and televisions, are discarded each year while only around 13% of those computers were reused or recycled. Electronic products contain a variety of hazardous constituents that pose challenging environmental management concerns.
