Orb MyCasting(TM) Trend Data Expands Recent Nielsen Findings to the Internet
Not Only TV, But All Media Usage Increases as Consumers Gain More Control
EMERYVILLE, Calif., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Orb Networks today announced that its user data mirrors that of Nielsen's latest digital video recorder (DVR) research findings showing DVR viewers watch 29 percent more TV than traditional viewers. Orb MyCasting(TM) data reveals the more control consumers have over when, where and how they access all of their personal media -- not just their TV viewing -- the more media they consume. These findings not only demonstrate a dramatic shift in consumer behavior, but also show how the Internet is unlocking media from its traditional home-based environment.
Orb "MyCasting" is the evolution of traditional "broadcasting," allowing consumers to take their digital media and view it anywhere, anytime and on virtually any Internet-connected device, be it a mobile phone, PDA or laptop. Digital media includes live and recorded home and Internet TV, music, videos, photos, podcasts and other content stored on a consumer's home PC.
"These findings begin to quantify what we knew intuitively: people enjoy the freedom of watching TV not only on their own schedule, but also in the location of their choice, and this has them watching more -- not less. Whether on the road, at the office or on vacation, Orb provides freedom from the confines of a home setting, resulting in more time spent watching and listening to all types of media," said Joe Costello, chairman and co-founder of Orb Networks.
"Active Orb users spend an average of 45 minutes per day MyCasting their personal media using the Internet to enjoy all of the content on their home PC, rather than one of the myriad devices available today," Costello continued. "When you consider the average Internet user is online 31 minutes a day, you start to see how the idea of media freedom is dramatically affecting both media consumption and how the Internet is being tapped."
Another piece of interesting data has Orb users getting their media stored on their home PC two to three times a day, showing a repetitive use once they start MyCasting with Orb.
