Although Americans' attitudes about the future direction of the economy continues to fluctuate slightly, consumer confidence is holding steady in July, according to the most recent results of the R-B-C CASH or Consumer Attitudes and Spending by Household Index, which measured the attitudes of one thousand Americans earlier this week. A softening of confidence rather than an increase in negativity, which was seen across all measures of the Index, and that produced a slight dip in overall consumer sentiment.

Fueled Into Action: Survey Finds Many Employers Taking Steps to Alleviate Impact of High Gas Prices on Staff

Professionals who are feeling pain at the pump may find help from their employers. Seventy-five percent of executives polled by Robert Half International said their firms are taking action to reduce the impact of higher gas prices on their teams. The most common changes reported include increasing expense guidelines for employee-incurred mileage which was cited by forty-seven percent of respondents, thirty-seven percent of those polled are allowing staff to telecommute more frequently and thirty-five percent of respondents are encouraging carpooling.

NASA scientists have determined the formation of clouds is affected by the lightness or darkness of air pollution particles. This also impacts Earth's climate. In a breakthrough study published in the online edition of Science, scientists explain why aerosols -- tiny particles suspended in air pollution and smoke -- sometimes stop clouds from forming and in other cases increase cloud cover. Clouds deliver water around the globe, and they also help regulate how much of the sun's warmth the planet holds. The capacity of air pollution to absorb energy from the sun is the key.
