Actress Jayne Meadows and Chicago Author Ben Alba Discuss Steve Allen's Influence on The Tonight Show at the Steve Allen Theater in Hollywood July 16

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Jayne Meadows, Hollywood actress and wife of the late Steve Allen, will be speaking at the Steve Allen Theater on Sunday, July 16 at 11 a.m. Meadows will be joined by Chicago author Ben Alba. Together they will talk about entertainer Steve Allen and his influence on "The Tonight Show," which launched the late night television talk format and made household names of Johnny Carson, Jay Leno and David Letterman, in the Steve Allen Theater at the Center for Inquiry-West in Hollywood.

Jayne Meadows has preformed in movies and television programs such as City Slickers, The Story of Us, Diagnosis Murder, The Roast, A Kick in the Caboose, Civil Wars, The Triumph of DeVille, The Love Boat, and Hawaii Five-O.

In Alba's recent book, Inventing Late Night: Steve Allen and the Original Tonight Show Alba documents the creation and early history of "The Tonight Show" and explains how Allen's quirky family shaped the development of his comic ability.

In the book Alba chronicles the true story of how the "Tonight Show" developed under Allen's innovative leadership as its creator and first host (1954-57). That story is told by the people who where there 50 years ago, including members of the original production team, the first "Tonight" regulars, and Allen's colleagues, including Carl Reiner, Sid Caesar, Jonathan Winters, Don Knotts, Louis Nye, Tom Poston, Doc Severinsen, Tim Conway, the Smothers Brothers and Allen's widow, Jayne Meadows.

A former trial lawyer who teaches legal writing and bar review practice skills at DePaul, Alba became interested in Steve Allen while pursuing his love of entertainment.
