Kangaroo.TV's Andy Bernstein and Sports Industry Veteran Ed Desser to Partner at C4-Sports Presentation

Kangaroo.TV's Andy Bernstein and Sports Industry Veteran Ed Desser to Partner at C4-Sports Presentation

HUNT VALLEY, Md., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Andy Bernstein, vice president of U.S. markets at Kangaroo.TV, and Ed Desser, president of Desser Sports Media, will be delivering a presentation titled "Content Corner: Managing Rights in the Digital Age," at the C4-Sports Electronic Media Show on July 18 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. During the session, Bernstein and Desser will discuss the management of digital sports content and discuss the current issues in the sports rights business, including Major League Baseball's (MLB) newly announced television agreement and its implications.

"We live in a much more complex world than say, five years ago. Today there are so many different ways to splice up content rights, including wireless and mobile devices, Internet streaming, traditional television, and onsite rebroadcast," said Bernstein. "The way new rights are being administered really affects the technical and production side of things, and vice versa. Consequently, everyone needs to be aware of the issues at hand when they are creating any sort of content arrangement; in this case, sports content and production."

In addition to discussing current issues and trends in sports rights management, the session will explore how wireless technology, the Internet, and the conversion to an all-HD sports world would each ultimately impact the sports rights business. Desser said the session will also examine which way the pendulum is swinging between the aggregation of sports rights on a national basis versus the exploitation of rights on a local and regional basis.

"As the means of exploitation of sports rights is increasingly dependent on the forms of technology that can be applied thereto, C4-Sports seems like an ideal forum for looking into the peephole of the future," said Desser. "I am confident that attendees to our presentation will walk away with a better understanding and the most up-to-date information about content rights management, specifically as it pertains to sports."

Desser serves as president of Desser Sports Media, a Calif.-based sports consultancy specializing in serving the strategic media needs of sports rights owners. Prior to founding the company in 2005, Desser held a variety of positions with the National Basketball Association (NBA) including president of NBA Television and New Media Ventures; vice president of television for NBA International; vice president and general manager of NBA Entertainment; and director of broadcasting and executive producer for the NBA. During his 23-year NBA career, Desser was instrumental in the negotiation of the NBA's landmark national television agreements with NBC, Turner Broadcasting, ABC, and ESPN, and he helped many teams negotiate their local rights agreements.

Prior to joining Kangaroo.TV in April 2006 as vice president of U.S. Corporate Development, Bernstein was a reporter at the weekly trade magazine Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal for eight years, where he gained a reputation as a highly analytical reporter with keen insight and a strong grasp of industry trends. While serving in this position, Bernstein frequently appeared on ESPN, CNN, and CNBC as an expert commentator and was instrumental in developing SportsBusiness Journal's highly successful conference series, including the industry's premier event, the World Congress of Sports. A graduate of Brown University, Bernstein also served as chairman of a voter registration nonprofit organization called HeadCount.org.
