The New Detroit Science Center to Celebrate Fifth Anniversary July 28-30 With Special '5 for 5' Admission and Extended Hours

DETROIT, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Celebrate The New Detroit Science Center's fifth anniversary as the "new" Science Center, July 28-30, 2006, with special "5 for 5" admission and extended hours.

Visitors can experience an IMAX(R) Dome Theatre film, Dassault Systemes Planetarium show, the Robots: The Interactive Exhibition and SPACE: A Journey to Our Future special exhibits, and museum admission to all of the Science Center's hands-on exhibits and live science shows for only $5 per person, a savings of $13.95 off the adult admission price.

Museum hours will be extended on Friday, July 28, from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., Saturday, July 29, from 10:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Sunday, July 30, from 12 p.m. - 6 p.m.

The IMAX(R) Dome Theatre will show Bugs!, Mystery of the Nile, Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon and Journey into Amazing Caves, the film that debuted in the theater July 28, 2001. Caves is back for a limited three-day showing July 28-30, 2006.

The Dassault Systemes Planetarium will show The Greatest Wonders of the Universe, Starlit Summer Nights, The Sky Above Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and the very first show to appear in the planetarium, Views of the Universe, back for a limited run July 28-30, 2006.

The Science Center re-opened as The New Detroit Science Center on July 28, 2001 following a two-year, $30 million renovation and expansion. Since then, more than 1.5 million visitors have experienced the wonders of science and technology at the Science Center, including more than 500,000 children as part of school field trips, 13,000 summer campers and scouts, hundreds of community groups and thousands of families exploring and learning together.

Over the last five years, the Science Center has brought Detroit Jane Goodall, Titanic: The Artifact Exhibit, moon rocks, Monster Trucks and more. It has introduced 19 IMAX(R) Dome Theatre films, 18 planetarium shows, 20 different live demonstration shows and 10 major traveling exhibits. The Foucault Pendulum in the GM Motion Laboratory has even swung back and forth 22,525,715 times!
