PA Governor Rendell Announces Keynote Speakers for Pennsylvania Governor's Conference for Women

Marian Wright Edelman, Mia Farrow and Teresa Heinz to Keynote

HARRISBURG, Pa., July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell today announced that Marian Wright Edelman, Mia Farrow and Teresa Heinz will serve as keynote speakers at the third annual Pennsylvania Governor's Conference for Women, Sept. 14, in Pittsburgh.

The acclaimed humanitarians will round out an impressive program that also includes CNBC's Maria Bartiromo, author Jacqueline Mitchard and dozens of other experts in the fields of business, health, media and personal development.

"I am pleased that Marian Wright Edelman, Mia Farrow and Teresa Heinz will be able to join us at this year's conference to share their incredible experiences with the women of Pennsylvania," said Governor Rendell. "Once again, the conference program is shaping up to be thought-provoking, educational and motivational. The First Lady and I look forward to bringing this premier event to the great city of Pittsburgh."

Acclaimed actress Mia Farrow, star of such classics as "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Great Gatsby," now devotes herself to humanitarian efforts. Farrow serves as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF and, in that capacity, recently returned from her second trip to Darfur.

Marian Wright Edelman is founder and president of the Children's Defense Fund and has been an advocate for disadvantaged Americans for her entire professional life. She has received more than 100 honorary degrees and countless awards, including the Albert Schweitzer Humanitarian Prize, the Heinz Award and a MacArthur Foundation Prize Fellowship.

Teresa Heinz chairs The Howard Heinz Endowment and the Heinz Family Philanthropies. She is recognized as an environmental leader and has been a tireless educator and advocate for women's health and economic security. The Heinz Endowment has made an indelible mark on southwestern Pennsylvania.

The non-partisan, daylong Governor's Conference for Women offers the women of Pennsylvania an opportunity to enrich their lives, advance their careers and grow personally and professionally. This year, the conference will be made possible thanks to the generous support of Wachovia, the conference presenting sponsor, and Xerox, the co-chair sponsor. More than 4,700 women from across Pennsylvania attended last year's conference.

"Wachovia Corporation is proud to serve as presenting sponsor of this incredible event, as we recognize and appreciate that when women get together, strong communities and networks form," said Jenny Ward, vice president, Women's Market Leader, for presenting sponsor Wachovia Corporation. "We welcome the opportunity to be a catalyst to help forge those networks and create a forum that will inspire and motivate women of all ages and backgrounds."
