Taps Emmy Award-Winning Filmmaker for 'A Nurse I Am'
LOS ANGELES, July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Cherokee Uniforms recognizes that a chronic shortage of nurses is plaguing the healthcare industry -- and the California-based healthcare apparel company is doing something about it. For the past two years, Cherokee has been working on a project, titled "A Nurse I Am," with Emmy Award-winning filmmaker David Hoffman. The end result is two films that celebrate the nursing profession and salute those whose intellect, critical thinking and compassion facilitate healing.
One film, a 62-minute documentary, chronicles the personal and professional lives of three nurses. It reveals what motivates these professionals to pursue excellence in every aspect of their clinical practice and shows how they maintain personal balance in the midst of high-stakes, pressure-filled workdays.
The other film, a 32-minute educational film for nurses and those who are considering entering the profession, presents nurses in real-life situations interacting with patients, students and colleagues to highlight key points for a successful nursing career. This film has been recommended by the Ohio Nurses Association, the Association of Pediatric Oncology Nurses, the American Assembly for Men in Nursing, Nurses House and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Cherokee has provided this film, along with a classroom discussion guide, to every school of nursing in the United States and is offering scholarships for nursing students who submit an essay on what the film meant to them and are selected as winners. Scholarship details are available at www.ANurseIAm.com.
The nurses featured in the films are recipients of the Cherokee Inspired Comfort Award, which nationally honors exceptional service, sacrifice and innovation among nurses and other healthcare professionals.
"We hope the outstanding nurses featured in 'A Nurse I Am' not only will encourage nurses and nursing students who sometimes are discouraged by the demands of the field, but that it will help inspire our nation's best and brightest students to pursue the nursing profession," said Michael Singer, president and CEO of Cherokee Uniforms.
A DVD containing both films is available for purchase at www.ANurseIAm.com. The cost is $10 and includes shipping and handling.
