Breast Cancer Survivors 'Sing to Live'

Breast Cancer Survivors 'Sing to Live'

Sing to Live Community Chorus Performance June 25, 2006 in River Forest

CHICAGO, June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Sing to Live-Live to Sing, a not-for-profit organization founded by Chicago resident Melinda Pollack, was established to create an all voice community chorus to provide an interactive musical outlet for men and women whose lives have been touched directly or indirectly by breast cancer. The chorus serves, in part, as a support group that celebrates hope and survival and provides a sense of community for people that share similar experiences with regards to breast cancer. In addition, it provides a rich musical experience for both its members and the community.

A breast cancer survivor herself, Pollack found as she researched support groups for her own journey, that none incorporated music. It was then that she decided to start a community chorus to fill this void. "I was very surprised since music is such a healing activity," says Pollack. "I thought it would be a great way to provide support to the breast cancer community." "A side benefit," says Pollack, "is performing for the community. This allows us to share the beauty of music."

The Sing to Live Community Chorus will hold its spring performance, "Birthday Tributes and Celebrations," on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. at Dominican University, Lund Auditorium, 7900 West Division Street, River Forest.

This performance will be directed by Dr. Wilbert O. Watkins. Dr. Watkins brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in conducting, voice and music education. Dr. Watkins, who has directed myriad choral groups both in the Chicago area and in the U.S., carefully selected each piece for the program. Cassie Makeeff, known in the Chicago area for her coaching work with opera singers, provides her incredible skills as accompanist.

Tickets are $20.00 and may be purchased on the organization's website at http://www.singtolive.org/ or at the door on the evening of the event. For additional information, call 1-773-250-SING.
