Comcast Recognizes Over 1,700 High-School Seniors for Community Service and Leadership

Leaders and Achievers(R) Scholarship Program awards $1.72 million in scholarship grants through The Comcast Foundation

PHILADELPHIA, May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The Comcast Foundation today announced that it has awarded 1,728 students in 34 states and Washington, DC a total of $1.72 million through its 2006 Leaders and Achievers(R) Scholarship Program. Students are recognized on the basis of community service, leadership skills, positive attitude and academic achievement and will receive a one-time grant of $1,000 for educational expenses.

"These young adults are our future business and community leaders. We're pleased to recognize the tremendous impact that these students have made in their schools and communities," said Brian L. Roberts, Chairman and CEO, Comcast Corporation.

Seniors attending high schools in Comcast communities across the country were nominated for the scholarship by their principals. Students were nominated based on their leadership skills, positive attitude, academic achievement and various community service activities including mentoring and tutoring younger students, volunteering at hospitals and participating in hurricane relief efforts. The Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program, which was introduced in 2000, reinforces Comcast's commitment to develop young leaders and provides them with every opportunity to achieve their potential. To date, more than $5.8 million in scholarship grants have been awarded.

"The Comcast Foundation wants young people in the local communities we serve to know that we value their contributions," said Joseph W. Waz, Jr., President, The Comcast Foundation. "We're proud to continue to expand this program to recognize and reward students, who are committed to improving their communities."

The program is managed by Scholarship Program Administrators - an independent, not-for-profit organization that manages corporate and corporate foundation scholarship programs.
